NEW YORK - CBS News on Thursday fired the executive producer of Katie Couric's struggling "CBS Evening News" broadcast and appointed former CNN and MSNBC president Rick Kaplan to the job.

More like firing the general manager, but the point is well-taken. I'm sure the exec producer (by the way, what is the difference between an executive producer and a producer, anyway?) will land on his feet.
