The Real Deal - The American Spectator (http://www.spectator.org/dsp_article.asp?art_id=11131)

< snip , snip >

Thompson has no campaign staff in place and is not seeking support from his former colleagues in the Senate, despite published rumors that former Sen. Howard Baker was on Capitol Hill last week seeking support for him. "Thompson wouldn't do that to McCain and [Sam] Brownback and other former colleagues," says a Republican Senate leadership aide. "My understanding is that some members asked Baker about what he thought Thompson was doing, and Baker answered honestly: he didn't know. Baker was not pushing Thompson up here."

On one hand (at the beginning of the piece) you have a "senior RNC official" tooting Senator Thompson's horn, and yet at the end of the piece, they debunk reporting Baker's lobbying for support.

The suspense is gonna be a killer until he puts the rumors to rest, one way or another :smirky: .

The Young Turks: Fred Thompson Considering Entering the Presidential Race (http://www.theyoungturks.com/story/2007/3/11/16194/3271)

I talked with Fred Thompson at a party for ABC Radio in Los Angeles Friday night. I introduced myself as the host of The Young Turks on Air America Radio. Even though I made it clear in the beginning of the conversation that I might not come from the same side of the political spectrum as he does these days, he was very receptive and candid in our conversation.

When I asked him about a movement to draft him into the presidential race (http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2007/3/9/12632/43956), I got a surprising answer. He said he was open to it.

Baker, who Wednesday made a visit to the Senate, was asked by several Republicans about his involvement on Thompson’s behalf.

“He said, ‘I am making a few calls and I think it’s a great idea,’” said one Senate Republican who heard Baker discuss his efforts to advance Thompson’s prospects.

One Republican who discussed a possible bid with Thompson described his interest and Baker’s queries as “a friendly exploration.”

Daily Kos: Fred Thompson: This is the best they can put up? (http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2007/3/12/122641/064)

Many conservatives claim that former Tennessee Senator and Law & Order star Fred Thompson should enter the race and assume the mantle of the Real Conservative who can unite the base. Thompson has recently admitted that he is considering running (http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/03/12/thompson.ap/index.html).

Reading through his list of credentials, I find it amazing that this dope is the best that the base can throw up. Obama might bury him in an even bigger landslide than fellow conservatives Romney or Gingrich. So what are Thompson's conservative bona fides?

He made it to Townhall.com --

Fred Thompson considers running::By William Rusher (http://www.townhall.com/Columnists/WilliamRusher/2007/03/13/fred_thompson_considers_running)

The battle for the Republican presidential nomination underwent a major transformation last weekend when Fred Thompson told Chris Wallace of the Fox News Channel that he is considering entering the race. This is no minor development. Bob Beckel, Clinton's longtime press secretary and now a Democratic commentator for Fox, promptly asserted that Thompson is the only possible Republican contender "who scares me," and he is right to worry.

Scary Fred NEEDS to run, :smirky:

Gingrich, Thompson, Hagel & Gore::By Rich Galen (http://www.townhall.com/Columnists/RichGalen/2007/03/12/gingrich,_thompson,_hagel__gore)

Former Watergate Committee staffer; former actor; former US Senator; and current actor, Fred Thompson appeared on Fox News Sunday. When Chris Wallace asked him if he was considering running for President, Thompson said: "I'm giving some thought to it. Going to leave the door open."

Which, in this day-and-age, is the equivalent of balloons going up; confetti coming down; bands playing and signs waving.

I must admit Im severely disappointed in some of the characters at Fox for their not-so-subtle attempt to bury this potential nominee in the face of overwhelming support, and before he even gets his name officially on the list...

Looks like the RINOs thought this year was their year... I am not sorry to say we will disappoint them...:flame:
