Why Fred Thompson Should Run::By Mona Charen (http://www.townhall.com/Columnists/MonaCharen/2007/03/23/why_fred_thompson_should_run)

The current Republican field is like a smorgasbord at Denny's -- lots of OK choices, but nothing to get the heart racing. That's why the potential candidacy of former Sen. Fred Thompson is creating a palpable stir.

< snip , snip >

His voting record is solidly conservative. He is articulate, self-made (his father was a car salesman), highly intelligent, and exudes calm authority. His star power offers him an opening with independent voters that other candidates can only dream of, while his solid conservative credentials will excite the Republican base.

He hasn't dreamed of becoming president since he was in diapers. But he has noticed that 57 percent of Republicans tell pollsters they are unsatisfied with the current field.

It may be that no one can play a Republican president better than Fred Thompson.

Fred's looking better and better as a candidate every day. If he decides to run, he'll probably announce it next year or perhaps just before the deadline for applying for matching funds happens to be. He already has face and name recognition. That would save him lots of time and money on the campaign trail...plus you know the media will follow him like no other candidate because he's not a boring DIM.

If he doesn't run, we'll wind up with a gun grabbing, tax raising, earth first, homosexual rights advocating, anti-American socialist rat bastard.

He can't wait too long, especially with the states making motions to move their primaries (Florida is trying to change theirs to January 29th!)

If Fred runs, I will be voting GOP. His credintials are high. I would prefer Alan Keyes, but it doesn't look like he will be running for the GOP nomination this time around.

I'm one of the many who don't like what the GOP has for candidates. Of what's there, only Guiliani and McCain give Hitlery a solid run and they're both as Liberal as she is so we'd lose anyway.
I've initially stuck with Tom Tancredo but he's a relative unknown. He needs more spotlight to be viable.

Fred Thompson I could and would vote for and my conscience would be clean. America needs Fred Thompson and America needs Fred Thompson NOW!!!
