Does anyone here still think it would be a good idea to legalize drugs like meth?

ST. LOUIS - A southeast Missouri man who drew global attention for his documentary about how methamphetamine hopelessly ravaged his body died Monday still optimistic his film steers others from the highly addictive stimulant.

"He was extremely satisfied, wanting to do more in getting the word out and showing kids what meth harm does. We didn't get to that point," his father, Jack Bridges, said in a telephone interview hours after his son Shawn's death at age 35. "He didn't want anyone to go through what he did."

Shawn Bridges died shortly after 11:30 a.m. at a hospital in Cape Girardeau, Mo., his father by his side.

"We wanted to keep him with us a lot longer, but we appreciate God's good grace," Jack Bridges said, saying his son's crusade presses on. "We'll still be trying to drive home the point that these drugs are poison, and that people using them are heading the same place Shawn has gone."

You bet I do, & I'm not ashamed to say so.

The 10th Amendment leaves fighting crime to the states, & the few crime-fighting powers that the federal government has been given by the Constitution are clearly spelled out for all to see--& they do not include arresting those of us who enjoy recreational drugs.

Now when it comes to PROTECTING OUR BORDERS, I would say, YES, ABSOLUTELY! That IS a federal power, & the feds should, IMO, put the military along our borders to prevent drug & human smugglers from entering our nation--& shoot to kill when doing so!

I heard that back in the early 20th century there was a saying that went, "don't make a federal case out of it". That must have been back in the days when that phrase actually meant something, because today the feds think they are obliged to stick their nose into every crook & cranny of American life, whether it be from the amount of water that toilets can flush to the legal limits of alcohol in a person's blood while they are driving.

Of course, meth use is disgusting. Recently I met a lady who says she used to do a lot of meth in the past, &, wouldn't you know it, 1/2 of her teeth have rotted out! She may be 45 years old, yet she looks more like she's 65 (she's a nicotine addict, too, so that may have a lot to do w/ her early aging problem)....but why do Drug Warriors have so little respect for the State governments, who can fight their own drug wars as severely as they so desire--& should be free to do so w/o federal interference under the 10th Amendment? Why do people who call themselves "conservative" completely disregard the 10th Amendment as badly as the Democrats do...especially when it suits their interests?

Now re: the legalizing part, the states should be free to punish drug use & possession as they so desire. A conservative state like Utah can use the death penalty against those who have been found guilty of possessing a marijuana seed or a joint, while a liberal state like California can legalize any & all drugs if the citizens of that state send legalizers to their State Assembly.

Personally, I can compromise, & come somewhere in the middle of those 2 extremes: I say RE-legalize marijuana use & cultivation for adults over the age of 25, severely punish those who operate a motor vehicle or are around children while under the influence, terminate all state-sponsored food, housing, & other programs for those who test positive, etc. People should USE RESPONSIBLY, just like they drink responsibly.

Go ahead and do drugs if you want. No amount of laws against them will do any good to stop their use. Prison time? I laugh at that. One thing for sure--I'm going to be well-provisioned, and I will blow any drug user's ass away if he brings them into my house.

GOOD FOR YOU, & I strongly support your right to do so. As far as I'm concerned, your house is your castle, & your right to keep & bear arms is an inherent right that the State has no authority to infringe under our current Constitution. :claps:

By the way, I meant "you" generically.

....& I meant YOU specifically.

But, beins what you said, I'm make sure to remember that, if I ever happen to be driving by your house & I notice that it is on fire, then I'll just continue on driving down the road rather than try to help. After all, I don't wanna get shot!

I'm sorry. I just got back. I believe in reckoning myself. If I'm calling for help to get my family out of a burning house, and you just drive on by, I will remember that, and the next time you yourself are on fire, I will do my darndest to stomp the hell out of those nasty flames.
