Most Women Too Nervous to Get Naked, Study Shows

Wednesday, March 28, 2007

In the brave new world of strip-tease workouts, plenty of women are still not comfortable in the nude.

According to a report in the Daily Mail, one out of three women just say "no" to their birthday suit if their partner is in the room. One third of females think they are too fat to be naked around a husband or boyfriend.....

.....These body image issues do not translate to men at all, the Daily Mail reports. Gentlemen are strutting around naked almost twice as much as their female counterparts in any given day.....http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,262005,00.html

I disagree. I'd say it's more like 50-50.

Charity got it right. It isn't "nervousness." It's modesty. Women properly are more modest than men, and it becomes them.

Not in front of their husbands. My wife has absolutely no qualms about being naked in front of me, unless she's worried that I'll get too excited. For anyone else she's modest, of course, but not with me. And that's the way it should be.

Aren't there two kinds of modesty? One dealing with not putting on airs and the other dealing with being shy?<!-- / message -->

I don't view humility -- not putting on airs -- as modesty, nor modesty as shyness. There is obviously overlap among them, though.

Actually, women are conditioned to be "modest" by society and religious institution. Of course we cannot forget the madison advertisement groups either. "Modesty" is a state of mind and not a state of dress in it's truests sense. I have seen many modest naturists and a lot of immodest clothes compulsive women.

"Modesty" is natural to pubertal women. Conditioning may reinforce what nature built in, excepting the exceptions that nature always provides.

The real conditioning is that which partly overrides the modesty that is natural to most young women. Strip those immodest clothes off such a girl, and she'll try to cover her breasts and bush with her bare hands.

Can you explain that in other words, Fox? I'm still on my third cup.

Celic spoke of social conditioning and said modesty is due to that. I say social conditioning is indeed in effect, but in the opposite direction from what celic said. Modesty is natural to pubertal girls. The immodest clothes you see today is the effect of social conditioning. If you think girls aren't modest, strip the clothes off them and they'll immediately try to cover their bare parts. That's natural modesty at work.

Some girls are shy, and some girls are comfortable with their naked bodies, but it depends on the situation. Such a girl in a natural setting will feel comfortable, while a girl about to get raped is going to panic, but no shyness is involved there. Only fear. About those girls who dress in immodest clothing, the same thing. Some are comfortable naked, and some are not. I say it's mainly the upbringing.

I remember seeing this ad for one of those online hotel booking services. It's their wedding night, and the bride is in her hotel room talking on the phone about her great Las Vegas hotel room (which she thinks is costing her new hubby $500 per night, even though he's really paying only $99). She's still in her low-cut wedding gown and trying to cover her cleavage with one hand.

Hey, lady, if it's your wedding night and you're in your room yappin' on the phone and still afraid someone might be seeing too much, do you think you might have been a bit underdressed at the ceremony, too? Hmm?

There are exceptions to every rule in creation. Girls who aren't modest at all are exceptions. I say modesty is inborn in most, and conditioning does matter. Girls were once embarrassed to be seen in bikinis, but nobody thinks a thing about a girl in a bikini today.

But just notice how girls in short short skirts still constantly tug at them to keep their panties from showing. The immodest ones not only wouldn't tug, but wouldn't be wearing panties. :D

I think that ranks right up there with those girls and women who wear a wrap-around skirt to cover their bikini bottoms. I don't get it. The ones who go skinny-dipping don't bother with anything. Speaking of not wearing panties, I think that is a trend slowly working its way to becoming common.

Ain't no doubt about conditioning having a powerful effect, though. I read one a Lawrence of Arabia's stories about this gal in a burkha riding in a camel race. The camel stumbled and the gal flew over its head, burkha flying off to reveal a naked body beneath. The girl didn't worry about covering her genitalia or boobs; she covered her face.

Thus was it proved that Wolfcounsel is right, and everybody is naked under their clothes, even if the clothes are burkhas.

Just so. And a spiritually healthy male is territorial and protective. My wife's inherent modesty -- not in any way overdone or prudish -- is endearing.

I don't know why it would bother them when they are with their husband. He should know the all the parts no one else does. Even the bible says you become "as one" so what's yours is his and what's his is yours too. ;)
