Dobson Clarifies Fred Thompson Remarks

Focus on the Family issued the following statement today regarding a story that appeared Wednesday on the U.S. News & World Report Web site quoting the ministry's founder and chairman, James C. Dobson, Ph.D:

"We welcome the opportunity to clarify Dr. Dobson's remarks that were first reported in Dan Gilgoff's online article titled 'Dobson Offers Insight on 2008 Republican Hopefuls: Focus on the Family Founder Snubs Thompson, Praises Gingrich.'
"At the outset, it's important to note that this headline is an outright mischaracterization of the views Dr. Dobson expressed. His words weren't intended to represent either an endorsement of former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich or a disparagement of former Sen. Fred Thompson. Dr. Dobson appreciates Sen. Thompson's solid, pro-family voting record and his position that Roe v. Wade was wrongly decided.

"In conclusion, we would caution friends of our ministry not to believe what they read about Dr. Dobson in the secular media today. Never in the 30-year history of this ministry has there been more misreporting and outright distortion of his beliefs and teachings. It is apparent that those who represent a liberal worldview seek to marginalize him and confuse our friends.

Anyone else think that the left is DEATHLY afraid of Sen Thompson and will do anything to undermine his chances. Put me in that catagory!

Well ,if Dobson knows this , maybe he should be a bit more particular on the interviews he gives and the words he uses ??

Totally agree! The 2008 battle could ultimately be the turning point of this country or the straw that broke the camels back! An awful lot of folks on this board recognize this fact, many on the left recognize this fact, so why is this guy completely in the dark.

As I was listening to Hannity prior to the 2004 election he kept spouting the same line over and over again, "The most important election of our lifetime." He couldn't have been more wrong. I have only been voting since the '80 election and 2008 in my opinion is the most important election of my lifetime to date.

The backlash from the wrong GOP candidate in the voting booth coupled with the almost certainty of Hitlery winning the 'Rat nomination puts this great country truly at a crossroads. I pray that Dr. Dobson and others pull their collective heads out and realize this! RUN FRED RUN!!!!!

A little off topic, but I'm now reading No Retreat, No Surrender by Tom DeLay with Stephen Mansfield. DeLay gives full credit to a video by Dr. Dobson for his rebirth after years of drinking (10 martinis every evening) and womanizing during his time in the Texas Legislature and during his first year in the U.S. House of Representatives. He calls himself jerk for his behavior. After viewing Dr. Dobson's video, DeLay became a born-again Christian and the rest, as they say, is history.
