In important ways Bush has gone about this war the way the LBJ went about the Vietnam war -- graduated responses and rationed hit-backs and eyes always on the polls and scared to death of what the media said. That didn't work in Vietnam and it won't work in Iraq. Wouldn't work on the moon, either.

I dont think this situation has anything to do with Dems being on control of Congress... If they had taken US sailors as hostages, I might be inclined to follow that train of thought...

But the fact is, they took Brits, not Americans, for a reason... They did it because they see Europe as the weak sisters in the equation... They believe if they practice terrorist acts against European countries, they will get away with it and will likely effect EU policy toward Iran - especially on this nuclear issue... Sadly, even with the Brits, I fear the Iranians will get away with this...

They know if they did this with US soldiers, it would be the end of their "Islamic Revolution"... It would end in smoke and rubble...

Still I believe war between the West and Iran is inevitable - Because the thugs in charge of Iran WANT war with the west... In the twisted, insane, alternate universe they live in, somehow it is to their advantage to go to war with us... I dont know if they believe they can turn the situation politically to some advantage on their part, or if they are deluded enough to believe that they can actually defeat the west - specifically the US...

It may be this twisted Muslim mindset that says that its a victory if they only demonstrate to the Muslim world that they are willing to get I our faces, disregarding the realities of the results...

Maybe they believe we dont have the will to wage total war on Iran - They may be right on that front... I doubt we have enough hawks in Washington with the balls to do the job right - and I strongly doubt the will or the moral courage of the American people these days...

Could be that Iran just wants us to conquer them for the billions of guilt-relief dollars we will give then when its over... Could be just a scheme to get us to rebuild their roads and bridges on our dime...
