PROVO, Utah - Some students and faculty on one of the nation's most conservative campuses want Brigham Young University to withdraw an invitation for Vice President <FORM class=yqin action=http://yq.search.yahoo.com/search method=post></FORM>Dick Cheney (http://search.news.yahoo.com/search/news/?p=Dick+Cheney) to speak at commencement later this month.

Critics at the school question whether Cheney sets a good example for graduates, citing his promotion of faulty intelligence before the Iraq war and his role in the CIA leak scandal.

The private university, which is owned by the Mormon church, has "a heavy emphasis on personal honesty and integrity in all we do," said Warner Woodworth, a professor at BYU's business school.

"Cheney just doesn't measure up," he said.

Woodworth is helping organize an online petition asking that the school rescind its invitation to the vice president. In its first week, the petition collected more than 2,300 signatures, mostly from people describing themselves as students, alumni or members of the church.

BYU policy: If you do NOT prescribe to our beliefs, you are not welcome. If you question our teachings, you are NOT welcome. If you present an opposing view, open to discussion, you are NOT welcome. WE will indoctronate our students to OUR way of thinking, right or wrong.

Do NOT come here with the idea of undermining our students to think for themselves, and form their own opinions. They are OURS to controll.

BYU might have some lofty slogans and agreements for students to sign, but underneath they have to deal with the same garbage that all other major universities do

Hmm... out of 28,000 students? Doesn't look like a groundswell of support.

I have an idea that a higher % of Mormons vote 'pub than most any other religious group, so you know that Ms. Peeloosely or similar ilk would never get invited to this shindig!
