I must confess that I am disappointed at the reaction from the Rutgers players to Imus' incredibly stupid remarks.

Here's part of what they said:

NEW YORK -- The Rutgers women's basketball coach and several of her players expressed pain and outrage at the racially charged comments Don Imus made about them, saying he overshadowed their success with remarks that degraded women across the globe.

-----

At the same time, she spoke in glowing terms about her players, who had made it to the finals of the NCAA women's basketball championship before losing to Tennessee.

"These young ladies before you are valedictorians, future doctors, musical prodigies, and yes, even Girl Scouts," said Stringer. "These young ladies are the best this nation has to offer and we are so very fortunate to have them here at Rutgers University."

-----

"We were stripped of this moment by a degrading comment by Mr. Imus," she said.

Now before you all jump at my throat, let me explain why I am disappointed.

While it's true that I am not black, I AM a woman. I have a university degree, I earn my living (always have), I am considered intelligent even by some of my most ardent opposers in this website and others.

Which is why I never, EVER, would have empowered a senile schmuck (pardon me) like Don Imus by playing the victim and whining about how he offended me.

I resent these two comments in particular: This one: "... he overshadowed their success with remarks that degraded women across the globe"

Speak for yourself, sister. No aging coke-headed drunk degrades ME. I simply do not allow it. Eleanor Roosevelt said it better: No one can make you feel inferior without your consent. Thank you, Eleanor!

And this other comment: "We were stripped of this moment by a degrading comment by Mr. Imus," she said.

Say what?! Let's see: a coke-head old fart like Don Imus strips a group of valedictorians, future doctors, musical prodigies, and ... Girl Scouts of their triumph simply by shooting his mouth? That's it. That's all it takes for these very capable women to forget all they achieved and cower into a corner. So much for "I'm a woman, hear me roar!"

If I'd been one of these girls, I would have told the press that I was amused by that poor bastard Don Imus, who now has to battle senility as well as alcoholism and drug addiction, or words to that effect. Never mind whether he's sober or not; he doesn't act it, so put HIM on the defensive. Deride him. Make fun of him. AND I would have made it very clear that I choose who I will be offended by, and that a drunk old fart like Imus doesn't qualify.

Unfortunately, we live in the Era of the Culture of Victimhood. Everybody and his grandmother is a victim, just waiting to be offended/degraded/belittled. And why not? Apparently, it's so easy. Nobody has the stamina to answer back, to kick @$$, to stick the chin out. No. Nowadays, people prefer to whine and moan about how mean the world is to them.

I'm sorry, but I feel very strongly about this. These women should have shown pride, defiance, attitude at least. Instead, they bow their head and whine that a lout deprived them of their triumph. Well, my girls, all I can say is if you behave like a doormat, chances are you will always be treated like one.

And do you know what? All this happens because of those despicable race pimps, Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton. It's their fault. Instead of teaching victimhood (for their own political gain) they should teach blacks to be proud of what they are and of their achievements, not to whine every time some hick calls them names.

Remember: No one can make you feel inferior without your consent. Words to live by.

And that is why I feel disappointed about these women's reaction to the Imus debacle. What a waste of a good opportunity.

Maggie I totally get where you are coming from but you have to remember these people are under the pressure of a major universtity, the press, families, and the public. I personally think they were told to say something about the issue. Most of them probably would rather shrug off Imus's idiot remarks about their appearance and go on with more important things.

It's nothing but Al Sharpton and the leftist thought police looking to cash in. Nothing more, nothing less.

Ah, the Rutgers Girls Basketball team, who, according to media consensus, are the brightest, greatest, highest achieving, most ennobling people ever to grace the planet Earth. They should receive the Nobel Prize for Everything. And they have suffered like Jesus Christ. What nobility and superiority they demonstrate in bringing Don Imus on the carpet to grovel before their enlightened greatness. Including the great mind, the would-be physician, physicist, playwright, humanitarian Girl Scout named Kia, who didn't know what Imus intended, although she would "axed him".

OK, fine. But if they had to say something, why the heck couldn't they just say THAT - instead of turning a loudmouthed idiot's quip into the Mortally Wounding Insult of the Century?

Those female assholes need to get over it and tuck their hurt little peepees back under their shorts. It makes me feel like puking up my ice cream beer float thinking that those ninnies were destroyed with a few words by some highly-paid nobody in the media.

Exactly my sentiments, everyone.

Prez, I'm sorry, but I have to agree with all the other posters. I cannot believe that these paragons of virtue and accomplishment would cave in to peer pressure. If they are so accomplished and brilliant as they say they are, they should have the courage to speak their minds, not other people's.

What a pity that such wonderfully brilliant women do not realize that disdain is the best form of insult.

Did you guys listen to Laura Ingraham's show today? 90% of the callers were black. Only ONE demanded that Imus be fired. The rest said that two weeks' suspension was good enough and then, we should all move on. Interestingly enough, ALL the callers said that Sharpton&Jackson DO NOT speak for them.

Then, there was Shelby Steele and Jason Whitlock - read his brilliant article here (http://www.kansascity.com/182/story/66339.html) - Man, you should have heard what they had to say about this farce.

American blacks would do themselves an enormous favor if the listened to people like Shelby Steele, Jason Whitlock, Walter Williams, Herman Cain, Star Parker, Thomas Sowell, and other excellent commentators, instead of listening to frauds like Sharpton and Jackson.

They didn't suffer at all. They just let themselves get manipulated by so-called black leaders.

What "happened" to them is nothing compared to what happened to the Duke lacrosse players.

Precisely, Jag Wife. What disappoints me in this whole thing is that Al Sharpton got what he wanted as did (apologizies in advance to you, Prez) black America. I'm willing to bet if it was an African American radio host who made comments, even as a joke, against a group of whites, nothing would be done about it.

And then I'm listening again to Sharpton this morning on the radio being interviewed by Meridith Viera. Now he wants to target the music industry for such slander yet he conveniently evaded the issue of how rap music and hip-hop has repeatedly degraded women and people of color over the years. I'll be curious if he has the guts to go after his own or if its an accepted double-standard.

BTW, my understanding is that ONE of the women is a valedictorian. I wonder why they refuse to identify just which one of them it is?

I'm with you 100%

I also would say , on this quote from you, that this is what in general you have to remember the education system teaches. They are pumped full of leftist views , that do nothing more than create victims and followers ( in general ) ie:"The sky is falling, it's so hot that theres another foot of snow and were gonna cancel the global warming conference, and the end all be all, be offended by every comment that someone makes towards anything about anything" Don't forget to push your feelings on everyone else , and make them live like you feel they should.
