Athletes Rescue Woman From Burning House

Friday, April 20, 2007

PHILADLEPHIA — Four high school athletes sprinted out of a track meet to rescue an elderly woman from a burning home.

Competition was just starting between Germantown High and West Philadelphia on Thursday afternoon when several shot putters spotted black smoke rising from a house across the street.

"These young men just took off running,"......http://www.foxnews.com/wires/2007Apr20/0,4670,AthletesFireRescue,00.html

Now this is the kind of news I wish was all we had to read or hear about.....a breath of fresh air!

Stuff like this is so dangerous. That house can go from good visibility to zero visibility in seconds with heat that will melt the skin. I've read many NFPA reports on people who try to rescue others from fires who end up dead or in burn wards for months. Even in my gear it gets hotter than hell.
I give these guys all the credit in the world.

It's a bitch when the airpack bell starts ringing too, especially if you aren't near an exit.

AT LAST! An encouraging act from AMERICAN YOUTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! All is not lost folks, we can still look ahead. My heart and sole goes out to these fine young persons. They deserve all the print that the MSM can give them. (but the msm has mud to sling instead) Role models #1.:claps:

Yep. Search and rescue is the real test of guts.
Its an even bigger bitch when your bell goes of before you even get in. Sorta like that flashing neon sign saying "Look at the dumbass who didn't checkout his gear"

It's a bitch when the airpack bell starts ringing too, especially if you aren't near an exit.I can handle the bell,Its the vaccuum seal around my face when I try to inhale that bothers me.Im usually so pumped up that I rarely hear the bell anyway, but that alarm vibrating against my mask coming from by regulator is unmistakeable.

We now have a HUD in our mask that lets us know where we are at with our bottle. Works pretty good to.

....and won't be heard on CBS, NBC, ABC and so forth. Good news is NOT allowed!
