MANCHESTER, N.H. - - Rudy Giuliani said if a Democrat is elected president in 2008, America will be at risk for another terrorist attack on the scale of Sept. 11, 2001.

But if a Republican is elected, he said, especially if it is him, terrorist attacks can be anticipated and stopped.

“If any Republican is elected president - - and I think obviously I would be the best at this - - we will remain on offense and will anticipate what (the terrorists) will do and try to stop them before they do it,” Giuliani said.

Is this some kind of sick joke?

Not a huge fan of the Jul's. But this is a big step: He's not just bragging about himself; he's drawing a sharp distinction between DEMOCRATS and REPUBLICANS regarding terrorism.

Obviously he has to work to make Republicans think of him as something besides a RINO, but I wonder how long he can make these kinds of comments before the liberal media turn on him?

Giuliani may be thinking that since McCain's candidacy is essentially stillborne, Democrats now have no other strawman to support. But this is really pushing it; I don't see why they would keep giving Giuliani a free platform if he keeps using it to trash them.

Personally, I think he's retired from politics and he's not really serious about pursuing a nomination let alone the Presidency. If he was afraid to face Hillary before, I don't think he's any less so now.

I don't think he cares that he's a flash in the pan; he's just riding this wave while he can to cash in before the serious contenders show up.

Since winning the War on Terror is by far the most important issue facing the voters in next year's election and since Rudy showed superior leadership skills following the 9/11 attacks, Rudy is fully justified in playing the 9/11 card. After all, whatever else one may think of him, Rudy has by far the strongest credentials of any presidential candidate on the issue of winning the War on Terror.

You have just showed how low you can go in your vile hatred of Rudy.

True, Giuliani didn't sit on his fat ass and wait for the federal government to ride in and fix everything for him. And that's nothing to sneeze at -- handling the aftermath of an attack competently certainly marks him as better than average among American mayors. I suppose his "9/11 experience" could be a factor in considering him as a new FEMA head, but that's about it. Trying to portray Giuliani as some kind of hero in an area where his opponents have no weakness is "crisis mongering."

More to the point, it is completely irrelevant to the REPUBLICAN primary. I think McCain is a piece of filth, but I don't have any reason to doubt that he would handle foreign policy - including the War on Terrror - at least as well as Bush did, or Giuliani might. Giuliani's "tough guy" stance on terrorism is the MINIMUM we can expect from any Republican Presidential candidate. So it is more than a little silly to keep harping on it.

The problem is that some Republicans are falling into the liberal media trap of thinking in terms of the "lesser of two evils" - and comparing the latest media-appointed "front-runner" to a moonbat - when no such choice is before us.

noncom: Except for McCain, a piece of filth, as you say, I haven't heard any other Republican candidate say much at all about the War on Terror. Until and unless I hear tough talk from another Republican candidate, I'll have to put my money on Rudy as having the strongest credentials of any presidential candidate on the issue of winning the War on Terror. Fred Thompson has talked tough on the War on Terror, but he isn't officially a candidate yet.

All of the current and likely future Republican Primary candidates are, at least technically, Republicans. And McCain and Giuliani are the least so of the bunch.

So don't worry: if one of them ever says one word that's less than the toughest imaginable about terrorists, you WILL hear about it.

I was in my car for a few minutes during lunchtume and got to hear a little of Rush. I understand that the Democrats are up in arms [whenever weren't they?] over remarks made by Rudy. Rush played numerous clips of those remarks.

Okay. I'm going to dust off my flack jacket and say this one more time: If Rudy gets the Republican nod, Rudy gets my vote.

If I didn't know anything about Rudy, if I'd never heard his name, just hearing what he's had to say in the last day or two about Radical Islam [is there any Islam other than radical?], and hearing what he's said about the War on Terror, and the Democrat[ick]s and their unwillingness to confront the enemy, would be enough to make me vote for Rudy.

Thompson is my man and I'm hoping and praying that he jumps in, but if I were a delegate to the convention and had to make a choice between Rudy, McPain and Mitt, Rudy would get my vote.

If we don't get someone who truly understands the enemy and is willing to confront radical Islam, then the rest of it isn't going to matter a Tinker's Damn anyway.

Well, it comes across to me as either incredibly distasteful humor, or the man being ape feces nuts.

I mean, he does know 911 happened during his mayorship right? To say that 'obviously he'd be the best at anticipating and preventing terrorist attacks'.....

I dunno. Maybe I am reading it wrong.
