WASHINGTON - President Bush should sign legislation starting the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq on Oct. 1, retired Army Lt. Gen. William Odom said Saturday.

"I hope the president seizes this moment for a basic change in course and signs the bill Congress has sent him," Odom said, delivering the Democrats' weekly radio address.

Odom, an outspoken critic of the war who served as the Army's top intelligence officer and headed the National Security Agency during the Reagan administration, delivered the address at the request of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif. He said he has never been a Democrat or a Republican.

Yes, I'm sure he's completely non-partisan.

Blue Moon Odom, your 15 years of fame are long-since past. Sit down and shut up.

Every time I see a "story" like this, I'm always appalled that there are still MILLIONS of people stupid enough to take the AP seriously.

If anyone stopped for even one second to THINK for once, he'd have to look at this and ask himself: "Why is this news?"

Is a national news headline broadcast every time a lieutenant general opens his mouth? Can it really be a bizarre series of coincidences that this seems to only happen in certain instances that are always "nonpartisan" in the exact same way?

Here boy. Fetch the stick. I've seen thousands like you, clown. Wearing a Military uniform and playing soldier without your mommy's permission.

Peer pressure isn't just for 8th graders anymore. Its for aging generals too.

Next on the list of suggestions:

1) Bush should wear jordache jeans because of that loopy stitch on the back pocket.

2) Bush would look like totally dope if he grew a soul patch and I think the chicks would like dig it man.

3) Bush should listen to hip hop so that he could be down with the kids.

4) Bush should also say he's sorry a lot and hire focus groups to help find consensual answers to the world's problems. He should also use more inclusive pronouns like 'we' 'us' and 'them'. Build bridges and shit. Give to the poor. Do a few PSA's. Pet killer whales on the head.

5) Bush should go with the flow. You know like when you flush a toilet and all the shit goes down that little hole? Yeah, just like that.

6) Bush shouldn't be stubborn. He shouldn't resist. Its not kind. Its not very inclusive either. Bush should give in more, bend over more, spread his leges out and point his feet at 45 degrees in relation to each other.

7) Bush should be the wide receiver. Not the QB. He should go out and go long. Just keep running down the field. We'll throw you the ball. Sure we will. Just keep running. Now run off the field, under the bleachers and back into the locker room. Now, just stay there for awhile.

8) Bush should be popular and try to be liked because not being liked is extremely painful and its also just not very cool either. Bush should wear some jewelry too. I dunno. Maybe the general could help him find something suitable and presidential. Something real shiny and neat and fashionable. Something that's a real eye-grabber! Maybe like a medallion or a gold toothpick. Something tough and gay at the same time. He could rule the universe with shit like that.

Odom is not just "any" general, however. He was a high-ranking official in the Reagan administration.

Not that that means anything here, however.

I guess he couldn't have been too very influential. I don't recall Reagan ever following his advice to announce a "withdrawal date" during the Cold War.

And that was how long ago now? Senility does a job on one, doesn't it. Pity that.

As I always say: don't bother me again with the tiresome "Oh, but he was such a hero so many moons ago." Good for him ... then. But I would be more impressed if our hero realized what is at stake now, instead of behaving like a Monday-morning-quarterback, armchair general.

I am sick to death of all these has-beens, who think that their past laurels give them the right to say anything they want, undisputed, unquestioned, uncontested by we, the people.
