Sticks and Stones::By Fred Thompson (http://www.townhall.com/Columnists/FredThompson/2007/04/30/sticks_and_stones)
It bothers Americans when we're told how unpopular we are with the rest of the world. For some of us, at least, it gets our back up -- and our natural tendency is to tell the French, for example, that we'd rather not hear from them until the day when they need us to bail them out again.
But we cool off. We're big boys and girls, after all, and we don't really bruise that easily. We're also hopeful that, eventually, our ostrich-headed allies will realize there's a World War going on out there and they need to pick a side -- the choice being between the forces of civilization and the forces of anarchy. Considering the fact that the latter team is growing stronger and bolder daily, while most of our European Union friends continue to dismantle their defenses, that day may not be too long in coming.
In the meantime, let's be realistic about the world we live in.

Sen Thompson is doing a great job of getting his positions out on the internet with all these talking papers! I love the way he hammerd W's buddy, pooty poot from Russia.

I haven't seen it yet, but I assume he'll balance this out with lavish praise every time some of our "allies" actually ACT like allies.
...the exact opposite of the Democrat handbook: belittle and insult any country that demonstrates support, and praise and commiserate with any country that opposes everything we do.
It's a little scary though. You know the liberal media are pouring over everything Thompson writes to find one sentence - or even a single phrase - they can use out of context and shout through a national bullhorn ten thousand times to make him look bad. They consider any Republican a criminal, and they will treat these "white papers" like a deposition: nothing he says can help him; it can only hurt him in their eyes - and ergo in their newspapers, TV shows, etc.
Don't get me wrong, I love the heck out of getting to know Fred Thompson better. But he's is going to have to make a choice: either be a candidate or a political commentator. He's going to have to stop preaching to the choir and get a national bullhorn of his own - or else he'll leave himself wide open for an unopposed smear campaign. If Thompson genuinely intends to run, he is going to have to announce his candidacy and start officially campaigning very soon.

Fred's going to be on Hannity and Combs tonight. Perhaps he'll throw us a bone.

No need to choose. He can be a candidate AND a commentator. Commenting, in fact, is just what Bush has done too little of.

I think he looks kind of mean. Still, I'd rather have that (maybe it would leave a tinhorn dictator shaking in his boots) than someone who looks like the Hildebeast or the Breck Child.

What, you don't think the average Islamofascist will take a screeching woman or an effeminant man who spends three hours a day on hair care seriously?
No problem. That's why the Democrats have their secret weapon; the one name guaranteed to instilled fear in the hearts of Muslim extremists everywhere: Barak Hussein Obama.

Fred DOES NOT look mean. His look is that "Don't-Mess-With-Me" look. And that's exactly what we need. Badly.

The only way Sen Thompson doesn't run is because of health and at this point it doesn't seem to be an issue! Book it! Already have my $2K donation ready and waiting!

The World Power Elitists are constantly shouting down military intervention because they prefer the UN's oil-for-rape antics as the world police, rather than an acting military that can destroy any given force of evil in its path.
Their logic is unfathomable.
Better yet, it doesn't exist.

I was intellectually interested in Newt Gingrich's campaign, but I was definitely going to wait and see what he said and did before I even thought about making a commitment.
But with Thompson, I CAN'T WAIT to start contributing time and money.
For the past 20 years, we've been energized by nothing but fear of letting the opposition get power. And frankly the liberals are a lot better at using that as their sole motivator than we will ever be.
Think about it; when was the last time you were genuinely EXCITED about a presidential candidate? Reagan, right? Since then we've had nothing but a string of Rockefeller Republicans who were content - even enthusiastic - about letting America rot from within. But at least they would make some effort to oppose our avowed enemies, so we felt we had no choice and those of us who could hold down our lunches long enough dutifully drudged to the polls.
Now, for the first time in decades, we will once again have something the opposition can't even imagine: something positive to vote FOR, instead of just something negative to vote AGAINST.

I believe I have been consistent in my insistence that I will no longer cast my vote against another candidate (who would be worse than alternative). I now (just as soon as he announces, and he will, I just know it!) have a candidate to vote FOR!

I don't know if he "looks mean", or not. "Tough Guy", certainly, in terms of what he has to say.
I have to agree with your second comment though.....
"If" I were one of the several enemies (foreign and domestic) of the USA, I know I'd be absolutely dreading the coming future 4 or 8 years of dealing with Mr. Thompson as President. If I were one of the US's enemies, I'd want one of the pansy Democrats to be President.
Our current "tough guy" Prez has been doing pretty good in terms of foreign policy. The Mohammedans have had to concentrate on merely staying alive and hiding, rather than plotting and carrying out another 9/11 outrage. I can't fault him one iota in the foreign arena. "We" can't afford to let "them" topple our economy or way of life. I don't care what it costs in terms of military spending. The "cost" of military defense is mere billions, and the existing conflict has been (spending-wise) fairly modest. A serious shock to our economy would hurt us in the multiple trillions USD.
"We" need another such "no nonsense", "no BS" grownup President. "We" don't need any more quasi-communist 40-50-60 year old spoiled children from the DNC.

And I don't think the left fully understands this point. The elections have been so close since '92 because of very sub par candidates. But you throw in a candidate that "ENERGIZES" the conservatives and you will see a very Reaganesque '80 or '84 victory that even the best moveon.duh get out the fraud drive can't stop! We will see just how "Polarized" this "50-50" country is when the Honorable Sen. Thompson announces his candidacy! Now lets see...
All together now:
Pay to the order of: Sen Fred Thompson for President
Sum of: Two Thousand well deserved dollars and no/100 $2000

This occured to me last night, Elucidator. I was thinking, "Is it possible we'll see a Reagan-like Landslide Victory in 2008?"
I kept quiet, since it's still way too early and way too far away from the election. It would be great to see if that came to pass.
