Obama gets Secret Service detail (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070503/ap_on_el_pr/obama_secret_service;_ylt=Amp8El9h6GtpyXvpx0kEeVQD W7oF) AP - 45 minutes ago WASHINGTON - The Secret Service said Thursday that Democratic Sen. Barack Obama was being placed under its protection, the earliest ever for a presidential candidate.

I would be worried if I were him too. Look at what happened when people starting thinking John John would make a good New York Senator.

According to the SS website:

Authorization
Today, the Secret Service is authorized by law to protect:

The president, the vice president, (or other individuals next in order of succession to the Office of the President), the president-elect and vice president-elect

The immediate families of the above individuals

Former presidents and their spouses for their lifetimes, except when the spouse remarries. In 1997, Congressional legislation became effective limiting Secret Service protection to former presidents for a period of not more than 10 years from the date the former president leaves office

Children of former presidents until age 16

Visiting heads of foreign states or governments and their spouses traveling with them, other distinguished foreign visitors to the United States, and official representatives of the United States performing special missions abroad

Major presidential and vice presidential candidates, and their spouses within 120 days of a general presidential election

Other individuals as designated per Executive Order of the President

National Special Security Events, when designated as such by the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security
United States Secret Service: Protection (http://www.secretservice.gov/protection.shtml)

Today is 551 days until Election Day 2008. Who did he suck up to for that coverage?

WTF? And we get to pay for this just because he's a wannabe Prez? Who pulled the strings for this I wonder?:flame:

I don't like the timing of this, but that being said if the Secret service is stepping in (probably on the Presidents order) this early then there must be a certain threat to him. He isn't special but concider this. What would happen if he were killed? Who would be blamed? Who would it help? Who would it hurt?

It is better to error on the side of caution right now, and offer him the protection that is needed until the threat has subsided. I don't like it but I would rather have this happen now then have to answer this question. Was there a threat? If so why wasn't he protected? I would rather do this then have everything blamed on the conservatives, because the socialists will use it as a weapon saying (the conservatives are racists). We have all heard this stupidity before...lol.

Do you really think that Obama is the ONLY current candidate to get threats? Me thinks this nancy-boy needs to pull up his big girl panties and hire his own security instead of making the taxpayers protect his metrosexual behind.

Being "Nancy's Boy" could be what got him his "protection". Wouldn't you want protection for that?

No he is not the only candidate to be threatend, and I dont like it. That being said you know this would just be one more blame the President, blame the Conservatives, blame white people, blame America kind of things if the protection wasn't in place for him. He should pay for his own security detail (there are many out there), and use money from his campain to do it.

Honey, if a gnat farts in South Africa they blame Bush for it. I don't even factor that into anything anymore because it's a given. I'm certainly not going to use the tired old "they'll just blame Bush/us" as a way of letting things slide for fear of "looking" like it's actually "our" fault.

Obama is a sissy. :D

Protection "for" that or "from" that? :D

If I was him, I would be afraid to get near her for fear of the botox leeching from her pores. But then again, they probably share the same manicurist so what the heck.

Hmm, maybe you didn't read my entire post but I'll post this just so you can read it.

Up above is what I think of the situation. What I wrote before in the post that you quoted, are my feelings on what THEIR reason is for granting him this special exception for protection. Its politics as usual in the nations capital.

I understand that. Meant nothing by what I said other than to say I don't care what "they" say about what is/isn't Bush's fault. It's a tired worn out recording that I no longer listen to. They need to find a new line. "It's Boooooooooooooooosh's fault" just ain't cuttin' it anymore. They would have been better off just saying "Obama is a sissy and is a'sceeered of the eeeeeevil Bush supporters". I could respect that. :D

Let Obama hire private security, like the law says he's supposed to do.

But Osama Obama is "articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy" (ask Joe Biden), and is therefore above the law. That should be self-evident.

Since they are so willing to accept money from gang bangin' hip hop artists, why don't they just get some of their thugs to watch out for him...free of charge!

The reason is obvious people...

Anyone have the list of the Clinton regime dead/disappeared handy? (Post it please)

Read the list, connect the dots. Godzillary is his biggest threat.

(Incidentally, modern American history shows that conservative leaders get shot by libs, not the other way around)

My thoughts exactly--bet he had a dream about Vince Foster!
