Brush fires merge, form 16,000 acre blaze (http://gainesville.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070508/SUNFRONT/705080332)
Alachua County officials have reported that a new fire has started between Orange Heights and Earleton in the vicinity of NE 77th Lane and NE County Road 1469, according to David Donnelly at the Alachua County Emergency Management office.
The fire is reported to be around 20 acres and firefighters with Alachua County Fire Rescue and the Division of Forestry are working to contain the blaze.
This is on the opposite side of town from us, but the smoke here is so thick we can hardly stand to be outside for even just a few minutes. My Bubba has to work outside (he's a route driver for the School Board) and he has asthma and respiratory difficulties.
Please, y'all, keep us in your prayers down here. It would be greatly appreciated.

Secure your place as well as you can, and if it calls for it, evacuate. My wife and I, my son and his wife, and two of our grandkids were in the middle of one of those California fires. We all caught some smoke inhalation, and the next few weeks after that were no fun and games, and none of us have any breathing difficulties or asthma. It's not worth it. Prayers are sent.

Pack up valuables (Pictures, family heirlooms, etc) while you can, and be prepared to leave. My prayers are with you.

Keep collars, leashes and harnesses on your pets. Don't hang on a moment longer than you have to. Stay Safe.

Ditto what Czech said. I would load my trunk with things I know can't be replaced and have it ready to go, and park in the shade so nothing gets too hot from the sun.
I pray you don't have to worry about losing anything though.

Thank you all so much, your prayers are appreciated and coveted. So far over here we're only getting the heavy smoke drift from the northern part of the city. One concern is the large chunks of land (farmland sitting between crop years) with drybrush very near us -- if a fire should ignite, we would definitely be between a difficult situation.
Yes, my Bubba's (better be, anyway, I didn't get up early enough to see if he had one with him) wearing his mask. Today he was called up for disaster relief to work the fire area, but I just don't see how he can go with so much breathing difficulty. Knowing him, though, he'll probably want to respond. I'll let y'all know later today if he's heading out, he'll have to call the DR Coordinator to get location and then clear with work to get time off. They are wanting him tomorrow through Sunday, .
But do keep the good people of Florida who are battling these fires, and the people in harm's way, in your prayers most definitely. We're "supposed" to see rain soon, leastwise that's what the weathermen are saying; it's so dry here, the firefighters need all the help they can get.
Oh and never fear, I am an EXPERT at packing quick and efficiently -- I got my hurricane evacuation plan (will have to call it my Fire Evacuation Plan now I guess) planned out to the T, all I have to do is implement and I'm good to go, :smirky: .
