Opie and Anthony Apologize for Joking About Raping Condoleezza Rice

Friday, May 11, 2007

WASHINGTON — XM Satellite Radio shock jocks Opie and Anthony apologized Friday for airing a homeless man's crude comments that he'd like to have sex with Condoleezza Rice, Laura Bush and Queen Elizabeth.

The remarks were made on their show Wednesday by a guest the duo call Homeless Charlie. As the name of each woman came up, the guest said he would like to have sex with her -- using language not fit for print.

Opie and Anthony laughed as they imagined Rice's "horror" while describing a violent sexual encounter in which Rice is punched in the face.

Washington-based XM condemned the remarks.....http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,271515,00.html

Dirt bags. Don't expect to see Revrunt Al demanding an apology from them, though.

Were they forced by XM to issue an apology?

Dunno. According to the article, XM has yet to say what punishment there may be. Based on the reaction from XM, my guess is that they were told to apologize.

Hey, fair is fair. Fire them! No double standards!

You're right though, River, Al won't help a white person or a black Republican.

Hey, fair is fair. Fire them! No double standards! It's not a total double standard when XM Satellite Radio is for the most part exempt from the FCC powerhouse. And remember, Condi is a black conservative, which means that Al Sharpton couldn't care less if she was raped.

Doesn't matter, Sanity. It may be out of the grip of the FCC but still, comments were made and heard by a public audience. If they won't fire or at least reprimand these guys then put Imus back on the air.

And remember, Condi is a black conservative, which means that Al Sharpton couldn't care less if she was raped

I believe I already covered that base.

They are on satellite radio. Sick comments or not they have the freedom to say that. I don't see an issue here, like I didn't see one with Imus or anyone else. PC police need to suicide.

I dunno. If you are listening to a "shock jock" I would think you know you are going to get trash. What I hate is when you are watching the news and some one who is supposed to be on a show or at an event where you have no idea what's coming. I have had more questions from my kids about what has aired on the news than anything else. Funny they seem to want to tell us how horrible it is and then consume their broadcasts with it. Its getting to the point where you have to wait till the kids are asleep to watch the news now. But with this, I would imagine it's expected if you are into listening to this crap.

The way it's been explained to me is, the Shock Jocks are actually employed by CBS which runs this show simultaneously with the satellite show, but filter or cut out the objectionalbe parts. This did not go out over the "public" airwaves aare controlled by the FCC. It was only heard on subscriber radio. People paid to hear it. Sort of like the XXX stuff on cable that not on your basic cable. You have to pay for for the trash and filth if you want ti view it.

I don't see what the problem is.

Everyone knows what and who Opie and Anthony is/are. They are the ones who paid people to have sex in St. Patrick's Cathederal --or some sacred church in NYC. Paid people so they could broadcast the audio on their radio show.

If you're paying good money every month for satellite radio, you must like this kind of stuff, you must want it, so you get it.

What's the big deal.

My personal beliefe is, if you tied these two together with an anchor chain and dropped them in the Harlem River, it wouldn' be any big loss to the world. But apparently, those who pay for this brand of "humor" would miss them greatly.

I also believe that the devil is holding a special place in hell for the likes of Opie and Anthony.

I also frimly believe that the likes of Sharpton and Jackson are going to be sitting right along side Opie and Anthony.

You just can't go through life committing the kinds of sin that those people do and expect to get off Scot Free when Gabriel blows his horn.

Here's my compromise. Re-hire Imus and I'll drop the whole thing. Remember, one standard for all. I didn't listen to Imus either so I'm not heartbroken either way.

Well, we have satellite radio in my husband's car. But that's because in WV between Charleston and about Clarksburg/Fairmont there isn't any "regular radio" and my husband goes up North at least once a month. It's nearly impossible to pick up AM lots of place because of the mountains. He can listen to FOX news from tv on the radio, several sports channels, plenty of conservative talk radio personalities and lots of music. So these guys are just a small part of satellite radio. If this is what they made the bulk of their money on you can bet they wouldn't be giving them the boot.

No. Best I can tell, CBS employs O&A.

CBS employed Imus. He was on PMSNBC through some deal struck between the networks.

Imus was the only moneymaker PMSNBC had.

That's an undisputed fact.

I don't believe to this day that the advertisers were pulling out. Sharpton and Sharpton alone was the reason Imus was fired.

If the advertisers want him bad enough, he'll be back.

XM Suspends Opie and Anthony for 30 Days

Tuesday, May 15, 2007

McLEAN, Virginia — XM Satellite Radio suspended disc jockeys Opie and Anthony for 30 days on Tuesday, one week after the two aired crude sex comments about Condoleezza Rice, Laura Bush and Queen Elizabeth and one day after making light of the incident in their broadcast.

"Comments made by Opie and Anthony on yesterday's broadcast put into question whether they appreciate the seriousness of the matter," Washington-based XM said in a statement Tuesday. "The management of XM Radio decided to suspend Opie and Anthony to make clear that our on-air talent must take seriously the responsibility that creative freedom requires of them."

Opie and Anthony, who last week apologized for the sex comments, struck a more defensive tone on Monday's broadcast. They lamented the state of radio and what they perceived as excessive reactions to comments made by themselves and other radio disc jockeys.

"We're under the same scrutiny as (National Public Radio) — it doesn't make sense," they said on Monday's show.....http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,272573,00.html

Oh grow up! It's a free country - you're free to say anything you wish. But!! You're also responsible for what you say, and that means the consequences are yours to bear. You're responsible for your actions gentlemen, so man-up and take the consequences. Quit trying to dodge them by placing blame elsewhere........
