Newt Gingrich for president? It could happen.
In an interview with Diane Sawyer on "Good Morning America," the former Republican speaker of the House said there was a "great possibility" that he would run for president.

He will make that decision sometime in the fall. Sawyer noted that previously Gingrich had only said he was "thinking about" a run for president.
"You said you'll make a decision at the end of the September,{is it} more likely, less likely this morning? Sawyer asked Gingrich. "I think right now, it is a great possibility," Gingrich said.
"A great possibility you'll run? Sawyer asked. But Gingrich declined to elaborate. "I don't want to get into all this stuff," Gingrich said. "I want to focus on what we have to do to make America successsful."
Gingrich was visiting "GMA" to talk about his new book, "Pearl Harbor: A Novel of December the 8th," which he co-wrote with William Forstchen.
But Gingrich took time to assess the field of declared candidates and said he wasn't happy with the current contenders, comparing them to contestants on "American Idol."
"We're in this virtually irrational process," he said. "It's exactly wrong as a way of choosing a national leader."

I think Gingrich has lost too much credibility amongst his own fellow ideologues to win the nomination. A possible Thompson-Gingrich ticket comes to mind, however.

I agree... I think Thompson linked with either Newt or Tancredo would be a winning ticket... But Thompson is the key... He's the leadership personality that America is looking for...

I like Mr. Gingrich, and for his efforts to help restore conservative principles, I hold him in high regard. HOWEVER, attaching himself to Senator Thompson would hogtie the republican party much as has happened with Vice President Cheney when added to the Bush ticket.
If I had MY druthers, VP Cheney would be almost an ideal candidate to carry on a republican tradition and even foster a new conservative direction. But VP Cheney's health (and I pray for him daily), prevents him from being a viable option. Much in the same way, Mr. Gingrich's past and past perceptions regarding such will be the same type of hindrance should he be placed on the ticket with Senator Thompson.
I don't think that would prevent me from voting for the R-team, but I do think it would ultimately NOT be in the party's, conservatism's, or the nation's best interest to post them as a ticket.

I like Newt and I would certainly vote for him. However, I don't think that he is electable as a presidential candidate. He would be an excellent top adviser and political strategist to President Fred Thompson.

So I guess that means we go with Thompson/Tancredo?

Regardless of what happened to George Allen in VA this past year I would love to see a Thompson/Allen ticket and the following:
Sec of State: Newt Gingrich
Sec of Defense: Ret Gen Norman Schwarzkopf
Sec of Homeland Security: Tom Tancredo
Sec of Education: Sen Rick Santorum
Sec of Labor: J.D. Hayworth
Sec of Energy: Lt Gov Michael Steele
Sec of HHS: Gov Mitt Romney
Sec of HUD: Ken Blackwell
Attorney Gen: Judge Priscilla Owen
Hey I can dream can't I?

Newt needs to pull his horns in and forget the Presidency or the Vice Presidency.
We don't need Newt muddying the waters and distracting the electorate with his personal baggage.
With Newt on the ticket, his personal life is all the Dems would yammer about.
Total distraction.
If Newt had aspirations of running for higher office some day, he should have minded his manners.
He didn't.

I'm sticking with Thompson/Hunter. 2 good excellent speakers who can get the point made to the american public. Thompson with Hunters 25 years experience in the house and armed services comitee and his Vietnam War background and his Son's experience in the current war and record.
Nay sayers and defeatists like to bring up the cunningham scandal but that has not been proven against Hunter and still hasnt done anything to his popularity. There is no case.
Hunter would bring not only experience to Thompson but also someone who knows how to get things done in congress and how to win debates and lead the charge in grassroots conservative campaigning.
He lead his own charge in 1980 as one of the Reagan Republicans who sweeped into power in 1980 and he led a underdog grassroots campaign that won him a seat in congress.
Thompson and Hunter can Win ! They can and the nay sayers are the only things that can slow them down.

Hey I can dream can't I?
I think Dr. Thomas Sowell would be better for the Dept. of Education, 'cuz if I remember correctly, education is his forte (I'm not sure if education is Santorum's cup of tea, is it? How about making him our Ambassador to The Vatican instead?).
For the Dept. of TREASURY (don't forget that one), how about Dr. Walter Williams, the free market economist & college instructor? :thumb:
Judge ROY MOORE could be your 1st appointment to the Supreme Court.

I could most definitely roll with this one!
As far as the first SCOTUS appointee: Hands Down...Judge Janice Rogers Brown!!
Judge Roy Moore, while I admire his fortitude, he doesn't have what it takes to be a SCOTUS.

I'd put Phyllis Schafly in charge of dismantling the Dept. of Education, myself.

She's earned the chance to see it done to her satisfaction, IMHO, and she's got seniority on ya.

Judge ROY MOORE could be your 1st appointment to the Supreme Court.Only problem with that... he'd never make it past the Democrats' mob of gangsters.
I respect the man too much to throw him up there just to get shot down.
And although it's blatantly unconstitutional, we could anticipate a four-day litmus test on his religious beliefs.
