According to Powerline, Thompson is taking the next step to declare. Do not expect the official announcement for another month (quarter end) but it seems certain:

I'm told by a good source that later today Fred Thompson will take the next step on the road to becoming a presidential candidate. Specifically, he will give the go-ahead to put into place his financing and fundraising operation. This won't change Thompson's official status, but it's the next logical step one would take if one intended to change that status by entering the race.

Too much teasing --- do it Fred! :smirky: I would be stunned it he did not. He is way to public these days, and is scoring too well in the polls not to run. Once he declares poor Romney will drop to third (McCain is dead). I hope Romeny quits if it looks hopeless as Thompson can beat Guilianni in a two way race.

Then Fred should beg Peggy Noonan to write his speechs (okay, I confess, I have a crush on the gal...same age range y' know).. I know he would clean Hillaries clock. Let us hope...hope...hope...

I don't see teasing here!

While TIME and TIDE wait for no man, there is a time to move and a time to wait. As a professional actor, he seems to have the feel for the timing of the critical comment or the punch line.

As long as the media doesn't (yet) have a target, they are reluctant to attack and he has time to build the funds that Hillary has spent years accumulating.

HE WILL NOT RUN, unless he is sure that he can win! That means that when all the i's are dotted, he'll be there with a lot of armament.

I know Etaoin, I'm just a little impatient (finally!) for a good candidate, one I can vote FOR, not to cast my vote against "the other guy" http://www.freeconservatives.com/vb/images/icons/icon7.gif

Yes, I have been waiting for a fellow that I can vote for AND that the press will take seriously. While I have not watched the debates, I understand that Duncan Hunter always comes of well - he just seems (like Tancredo) to suffer from the opinion managers who declare him second teir.

Not so with Fred, who has been seen as a distinguished member of the party, well respected by the likes of Bush et. al. If he speaks well (and I think he does) he will sweep into a dead heat with Guilanni. Every conservative outlet will endose him (well, we have to see how the neo cons at weekly standard react, being that they love illegals). Human Events and NR will jump for joy - Ann Coulter will love him. Rush and Shawn will love him.

He will be THE Reagan Republican and I will join his campaign and help in any way I can.

Does he promise to abolish the Department of Education and scrap the No Child Left Behind? If he says yes, GET OUT OF MY WAY! I've got some campaigning to help with!
