I figured I might get some insight from one of you. Bear with me as this could get kinda confusing.

My brother-in-law's girlfriend's mother parked a 1965 Mustang hardtop last spring in my father-in-law's yard and has basically left it their. Naturally, I took interest in this car and this crackwhore wants $20,000 for a car that needs some minor cosmetic work and she's not doing anything with. Still, after many times of her saying that she will pick it up in a few days, it sits.

I want this car to clean up and restore, which shouldn't be that difficult. My father-in-law has given notice that she needs to move it or it will be removed. I have volunteered to be the tow truck and start collecting storage fees in hopes she will just say "take it."

Can I do this? Does he have other legal options? As their is no title on the car, how long after it's been sitting is it considered "abandoned?"
Any help will be appreciated. The crackwhore who owns it, so she says, doesn't deserve this car and it deserves a better fate.

To my knowledge, this varies by state, so I can't really help you. Why don't you ask a cop? While he/she may not know the answer, maybe they could point you in the right direction for it.

Maybe it it qualifies as an abandoned junker? I dunno. Contact your DMV. (http://search.dmv.org/dmv/abandoned%20vehicle)

Check local codes on abandonment.

Run the V.I.N. at the DMV for true ownership.

Send a Noterized, registered letter to the Titled Owner, stating what the storage fees are and when they will start.

Get counsel.

Possession is 90% of the law...if the car has been abandoned on someone's property for (I think) more than 3 months (90 days), with no compensation for storage (in ND, anyway), the car is your father-in-law's.

But, check the local ordinances to be sure...these laws can vary from city to city within the same state.

You need to contact the DMV or police as stated by everyone.

20,000 is a bit much to ask lol.

Anyhow I hope you get it and restore it. I love mustangs, you will too once you get that all set.
