Droves of cats and kittens are swarming into animal shelters nationwide, and global warming is to blame, according to one pet adoption group.

Several shelters operated by a national adoption organization called Pets Across America reported a 30 percent increase in intakes of cats and kittens from 2005 to 2006, and other shelters across the nation have reported similar spikes of stray, owned and feral cats.

The cause of this feline flood is an extended cat breeding season thanks to the world’s warming temperatures, according to the group, which is one of the country’s oldest and largest animal welfare organizations......http://www.livescience.com/animals/070606_gw_pets.html

I thought there were only supposed to be seven signs of the Apocalypse. Haven't there been more then seven hundred for Global Warming so far?

Think about it: They started telling us 20 years ago that the world only had 20-200 years to live. And the situation is evidently much, much worse than they initially thought. So isn't all of this pretty pointless?

By now we must be so screwed that the resources spent in complaining about Global Warming can't do anything except use up our last few minutes that much faster. So why bother?

All of the above terms are correct in describing female cats' periods of receptiveness to mating, but I will refer to them as the more often-used "heat cycles."

The Breeding Season in Cats

The breeding season in cats is practically year-round, running as early as February, and as late as December, but in the western hemisphere, March through September is generally regarded as the breeding season.

Rescue people dread "Kitten Season" because it means that in kill shelters, the new crop of kittens will eliminate any chances of adoption for older cats, including last year's kittens. If for no other reason, this alone is ample justification for the spaying and neutering of pet cats.

Heat Cycles in Cats

Cats are referred to as "polyestrus," which means that they will go into heat cycles periodically during their fertile years. These heat cycles may start as early as the fourth or fifth month of a kitten's life, and will continue until she is either bred or spayed. Heat cycles in cats last from several days to two weeks or longer, and repeat every two to three weeks. I take it this means that baby kittens aren't freezing to death in as great of numbers as they did in the pre-global-warming era.
