Ok I hate the term SUV as it summons up soccer moms driving a 5000 pound never been off road vehicle with 1 piece of dry cleaning in its cavernous back. So i need an actual family 4x4 recommendation, I'm moving to Idaho and It snows there and has some fairly bad weather so I will need something to carry the clan around.
I'm leaning towards a Land Rover or Range Rover, a Jeep or a Dodge Power Wagon crew cab with a diesel. The vehicle needs to actually be able to do what it looks like it should and should be fairly robust and get me out of bad situations.
I would need to get an older land Rover from England to get the Series III my heart desires. I could get a Defender in the US but only a few model years that were imported. I'm not sure about the Discovery I or II but they look nice.
The up side to older vehicles is that they are much easier to fix when carbureted, although I do have the equipment to work on fuel injection it is a pain in the but when your in the middle of no where to have a computer go down.
So if you own any of the above or have some ideas please let me know.
