Climate scientist says global warming stopped in 1998 (http://www.news.com.au/couriermail/story/0,23739,21920043-27197,00.html)

The salient facts are these. First, the accepted global average temperature statistics used by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change show that no ground-based warming has occurred since 1998. Oddly, this eight-year-long temperature stasis has occurred despite an increase over the same period of 15 parts per million (or 4 per cent) in atmospheric CO2.

Second, lower atmosphere satellite-based temperature measurements, if corrected for non-greenhouse influences such as El Nino events and large volcanic eruptions, show little if any global warming since 1979, a period over which atmospheric CO2 has increased by 55 ppm (17 per cent).

Third, there are strong indications from solar studies that Earth's current temperature stasis will be followed by climatic cooling over the next few decades.

.......................

As leading economist David Henderson has pointed out, it is extremely dangerous for an unelected and unaccountable body like the IPCC to have a monopoly on climate policy advice to governments. And even more so because, at heart, the IPCC is a political and not a scientific agency.

It would be nice if Bob would just tell us the name of that source for the temperature data.

Last year I was pissed when he used a source to claim no warming since 1998.The source was the one at East Anglia. There they showed significant warming on their chart.

He was wrong then and probably wrong now.

He did give the source as the IPCC Report and described them as "accepted global average temperature statistics."

"First, the accepted global average temperature statistics used by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change...."

emphasis mine

I would like to know WHOSE statistics that were used by the IPCC.

Is it GRU

East Anglia

Hadley/Crut

or ?????

But it does not matter since they ALL show distinct warming since 1998.They use SURFACE temperature data.

That data is now in the process of an AUDIT by several forums. Most notably this:

Posted from GWS forum:

Sunsettommy: I posted it here to help Anthony Watts and his website gain support to document the quality of the weather stations.

Will you join in the effort?

Get Involved!

Your help is needed to document the measuring environment and equipment condition of weather and climate monitoring stations worldwide.

Anyone with a digital camera, handheld GPS and and basic observation and reporting skills can contribute to this database.

To get started, view and/or download the instructions and site survey form from here of from the online image database at gallery.surfacestations.org Then familiarize yourself with them, and then choose what stations you want to survey and contribute to this database.

Full credit is given to all contributors of photos and survey forms, or if you wish, you can submit a survey anonymously.

All submissions will be checked for accuracy.

The Satellites show negligible warming since 1998 and NONE since 2003.
