Six scientists from some of the leading scientific institutions in the United States have issued what amounts to an unambiguous warning to the world: civilisation itself is threatened by global warming.

They also implicitly criticise the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) for underestimating the scale of sea-level rises this century as a result of melting glaciers and polar ice sheets.

Instead of sea levels rising by about 40 centimetres, as the IPCC predicts in one of its computer forecasts, the true rise might be as great as several metres by 2100. That is why, they say, planet Earth today is in "imminent peril".

In a densely referenced scientific paper published in the Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society, some of the world's leading climate researchers describe in detail why they believe that humanity can no longer afford to ignore the "gravest threat" of climate change. The Earth today stands in imminent peril (http://environment.independent.co.uk/climate_change/article2675747.ece)

The ecolunacy gets more and more strident and irrational. We're facing a scientific dark ages.

This all started, I think, over the hue and cry about that Harvard prof's article on IQ back in the early 70's. The libs went apeshit because the article cited well-known facts about IQ and the different races and ethnic groups. Thereafter, the psychometricians (psychologists who deal in measuring intelligence) went one way with their professional work, and the Left went another behind such farces as Stephen J. Gould's attacks on IQ, which unfailingly set up a straw horse of IQ as it was conceived around 1920 and took no note whatever of the professional literature on the subject. The psychometricians simply ignored that silliness as beneath them, so the Lefties won control of the public mind on the subject. I myself was convinced by them until The Bell Curve came out. I read it and saw nothing controversial about it, and then the storm hit.

The lesson, as Chas Murray knows to his regret: Don't leave the battlefield to the idiots because they will end up being lionized while you, who really do know what you're talking about, will be shunned and metaphorically stoned.

I would love to buy an old car that belches smoke and drive it by one of those global warming protests. :D

An SUV will do admirably well just because it exists. It's like holding up a cross at a vampire.

But, Global Warming Stopped in 1998 (http://www.freeconservatives.com/vb/showthread.php?t=48421) and there has been very little warming since 1979.

Okay, everybody. Relax. Take a deep breath. Now,
Run!

Though I don't normally smoke, I'll light one of hubby's cigarettes and flick ashes at them from the window of my moving SUV. The resulting panic is such a pretty picture!:noggin::roar:

Okay, everybody. Relax. Take a deep breath. Now,
Run!But running would cause us to exhale more of that EEEEEEEE-vill carbon dioxide, and the world would reach the trigger point, and the global temperature would instantly reach 97,552,108.45263°F, and the solar system would briefly have a double star.

Dare we risk that???????????????

You do that and I will get a jet engine on a test cell stand and run it with the blast going right in the direction of the protesters. It'll be nice and hot and oh that wonderful smell of jet fuel!

FYI, Sarah, I'm an aircraft tech. I just thought I'd let you know that since you're new. Yes, I could do such a dastly deed!!

It was a quote from a movie. The thread title reminded me of it.

I wonder why Markus,Golgo13,MichaelS and a few more AGW moonbats not posting in the Global Warming threads.

Maybe they are too tired of the beatings or is it they were banned?

Just wondering because it seems that their silence is noticeable.

In an email to The Independent, Dr Hansen said: "In my opinion, among our papers this one probably does the best job of making clear that the Earth is getting perilously close to climate changes that could run out of our control."

In YOUR opinion and in your wet dreams.

All of it based on suspect surface temperature data and the ever abused tool computerised climate modeling.

Pathetic
