WASHINGTON (AP) - Despite low approval ratings and hard feelings from last year's elections, Democrats and Republicans in the House are reaching out for an approximately $4,400 pay raise that would increase their salaries to almost $170,000.

The cost-of-living raise endorsed Wednesday evening gets lawmakers back on track for automatic pay raises after a fight between the parties last year and again in January killed the pay increase due this year. That was the first interruption of the annual congressional pay boost in seven years.

$170,000 for doing nothing? When they have my liability load,the crazy hours I deal with and actually do something worthwhile I MIGHT be swayed.

They are all overpaid! Same as the Senate and the President.

That works out to $465.75 per DAY, EVERY day of the year.

Got a better idea...let's CUT their pay to the STIPEND it is supposed to be. Lemme see...how's about we give 'em $500/week (even $1k)? That's $26k/year ($52k)...then maybe we could get rid of some of these 'career' politicians.

Sounds good to me...'specially when ya think about HOW they have these things set up...their pay automatically increases unless they vote AGAINST the pay raise. (At least, that's how it used to happen).
