Historians may one day look back on this week as the true beginning of “the Roberts court.” In two milestone decisions, Chief Justice John G. Roberts struck mighty blows this week on behalf of restoring two of the most basic principles of the American creed. Those principles are the right of every person to speak his or her mind about his elected representatives without fear of official penalty and the right of every person to be treated equally under the law without regard to his or her ethnicity.

Meanwhile, I hear Sandra Day is enjoying life as her in-home, assisted-living agent hovers beside her helping to cut her french toast like a child. He is even nice enough to lather each piece with a fresh coat of Aunt Jemima syrup before he plops it into her mouth.

Then, he reaches down and places one hand under her jaw and the other on the top of her head and, like a life-size PEZ dispenser, presses down, manually aiding in the mastication process.

Finally, at the end of each day, she is pushed into the corner of a dark room that smells of tipped over bed pans and congealing Salsbury steaks hardening on top of plastic trays where she wraps herself inside a heavy nylon curtain and plays with imaginary friends.

Wyatt, I get the distinct impression you don't like O'Connor...call it a guess. :D

However, O'Connor started out quite a bit more conservative than she ended up. Why is it that this always seems to be the case for justices nominated by Republicans? Why can I be fairly certain that Ruth Ginsburg, for example, won't be voting with the Roberts bloc anytime soon?
