Researchers have found they can use drugs to wipe away single, specific memories while leaving other memories intact. By injecting an amnesia drug at the right time, when a subject was recalling a particular thought, neuro-scientists discovered they could disrupt the way the memory is stored and even make it disappear.

The research has, however, sparked concern among parliamentary advisers who insist that new regulations are now needed to control the use of the drugs to prevent them becoming used by healthy people as a "quick fix."

But the US scientists behind the research insist that amnesia drugs could be invaluable in treating patients with psychiatric disorders such as post-traumatic stress.

I've experienced a traumatic event in my life and most of the time I would love to forget it. But if I did that then I wouldn't be the person I am today and I wouldn't be as aware of the dangers in the world that exist.

It's a bad idea. People will just keep repeating the same thing that caused the traumatic memory. Sort of like people forgetting history and repeating the mistakes.

Not a good idea at all. What if while they're injecting the drug you think of something that you're supposed to remember, such as, how to fly an airplane or drive a car or perform open heart surgery? What happens if you forget your name or where you live?

Yikes!

Whatever happened to the days when people were taught how to GET OVER IT?

Who needs an expensive drug to forget stuff when you can just use inhalants...
