2 TRILLION Barrels of Oil...Right Here in the USA (http://www.rinf.com/columnists/news/the-us-governments-secret-colorado-oil-discovery)

It dwarfs the known reserves of the ME...of course, it's in oil shale, 1000 feet under the Rocky Mountains, but it's there.

Hidden 1,000 feet beneath the surface of the Rocky Mountains lies the largest untapped oil reserve in the world - more than 2 TRILLION barrels. On August 8, 2005 President Bush mandated its extraction. Three companies have been chosen to lead the way. Test drilling has already begun
Dear Reader,
Five months ago, the U.S. Energy Department announced the results of a land survey
It was conducted to determine the official amount of oil a thousand feet deep in the Rocky Mountains
They reported this stunning news:
We have more oil inside our borders, than all the other proven reserves on earth.
Here are the official estimates:
* 8-times as much oil as Saudi Arabia
* 18-times as much oil as Iraq
* 21-times as much oil as Kuwait
* 22-times as much oil as Iran
* 500-times as much oil as Yemen
And it’s all right here in the Western United States.

Lots of oil right here:

Oil Shale in Colorado.
Oil in Lake Michigan (all the surrounding states' senators, WI, IL, IN, MI, pushed for a ban on drilling).
Oil in the Gulf of Mexico. Ask Jeb Bush why we're not drilling there.
Oil in ANWR.
Oil Sand in Alberta, Canada.

Not to mention that we haven't built a refinery in 30 years.

North America (Canada and the US) could be net oil exporters if we wanted to be. That would have a stabilizing effect on the world market, and we could tell the Saudis and Venezuela to pound sand. But we won't. Stupid.

Fantastic post Thomas, but don't forget that we're sitting on over a half a billion barrel (proven reserves) here in North Dakota...

Thanks for that. There are even more reserves that I know I missed.

Available natural resources is not a problem.

Technology to refine and bring the oil to market is not a problem.

The will to do so IS a problem. Shame on us. As a result, unfortunately we (collectively) deserve what we get.

The problem is that we are still allowing ignorant, self-important ecowackos to dictate energy policy.

"But you can't drill THERE! That's the breeding ground of the Lesser Purple-Eyed Ass-Biting Mosquito. And not there, either! Two Spotted Owls were seen nesting there in 1827."
"Hey, candy-ass, buy a clue!"
"What did you ... oh F**K!"

"Okay, Charlie, start unloading the equipment. And somebody get that pile of dog shit outa here."

I have always been of the opinion that the government wanted to use up the world's supply of oil before using our own. From a strategic standpoint its just good for the country to run everyone out first. Of course now that oil is getting more expensive (really its just catching up with inflation) Itll be unpopular to not use our cheeper domestic oil. Im neutral on the use of domestic oil myself but my reasons for being neutral isnt becuase of my inner hippie.

Nobody's developed oil shale because of cost. With the price of crude going ever higher, we're beginning to come into the range of cost-effectiveness.

The United States has an infinite amount of oil and natural gas. In order to make America more vulnerable to global socialism, Democrats want the U.S. to continue to be held hostage to foreign suppliers.

If the U.S. would extract its own oil and natural gas, it could be an exporter.

If Democrats were seriously concerned about the environment they would be demanding the U.S. build about 40 more nuclear power plants.

Absolutely, Phil...good point(s).
