HUMANS are just one of the millions of species on Earth, but we use up almost a quarter of the sun's energy captured by plants - the most of any species.

The human dominance of this natural resource is affecting other species, reducing the amount of energy available to them by almost 10 per cent, scientists report.

Researchers said the findings showed humans were using "a remarkable share" of the earth's plant productivity "to meet the needs and wants of one species".

Non-human herbivores use only as much vegetation as they need to survive. Non-human carnivores use only as many non-human herbivores as they need to survive. That's the food chain that has governed life on Earth since its inception.

One question that those craniorectally-impacted imbeciles don't address is what the Earth's return is for the energy investment of keeping the critters alive. Do those minimum-energy species help other species (aside from being lunch)? No. Do they help their own species? No. Have they contributed anything to Earth? No. What is their only function? A: to eat and be eaten. If that is one's destiny in life, it takes little energy to live.

What is the total amount of solar energy that all of the world's plant-eaters (from bugs to buffaloes) consume? And what diffference would derive from our no longer using that energy?
