Today I found this epitaph on a gravestone for a 34 year old ship captain who died in the late 19th century: (watch the punctuation)
"He was. Words are wanting to say what. Think of what a man should be. That is it."

I've decided on mine:
"If you're here to piss on my grave, please form two lines and keep it orderly. There's no hurry. I'm not going anywhere."

A couple of years ago I did the pre-arranged, pre-paid funeral bit including my gravestone which is all ready except for engraving in the date of my death. It says "Tomb of the known soldier"
(The italics cost me a few dollars extra.)
I'm retired, but I guess I can still claim to be a soldier.

I love old cemeteries. I visit them all the time. For the epitaphs, my favorite gravestones are those of pastors, soldiers and other military, and ship captains. The things that are said about these people are so beautiful.
