View Full Version : Cats: The Cheaper The Better When It Comes To Their Toys

About three years ago, we bought one of those Panic Mouse (http://www.panicmouseinc.com/)electronic cat toys for our cat Ronnie. It's a high-tech, battery powered interactive cat toy that moves a string (with a fake mouse on the end) in a random motion. The makers of this revolutionary toy claim that your cat will play with it for hours.
Cost: $30.
A month or so after that, I went into the garage and cut off a 6' section of nylon twine and tied a knot at the very end of it to keep it from unraveling. Then I tied the other end to a thin plastic stick that's about 18" long.
Total cost: $0.
Guess which toy he likes to play with now?
Yeah, the stick with the string on it. LOL

Try those little rings that hold the cap to the milk bottle before you break the seal. If you take the ring off and give it to my cat he has a blast.

My cats loooove those milk rings Suzie. They also love to play with ponytail bands, the soft, no tangle ones. I find them everywhere. One of them can find one of those no matter how well you hide them. She knows which drawer they are in and pulls at the drawer until she gets it open and then pulls them out. When she is done playing with them, she drops them in her food dish.
We also buy those plastic mice with the gray fur covering on them. They are fiarly cheap and they love. One of them eats the leather like tail off them and then within days she manages to skin them. Nothing but a plastic form and a tiny gray "fur" pelt lying on the floor. :eek1:

I know this is a kitty-thread, but I just had to add 2 cents on behalf of the canine community, :smirky: -- dogs can play cheap too. We bought a $7 squeaky toy for my daughter's (late) dog, which she loved, but nothing beats our two bulldogs, who will play with anything. They dug up a piece of rope, and they play tug of war, drop it in their kiddie pool to clean off the dirt, then one will drag it around while the other chases it, LOL. Didn't cost a penny, :D

It's funny how different cats have their own preferences too. We had one that loved to play with balled-up cigarette packs. We don't smoke, so we used to ask friends to give us theirs when empty. The cat loved 'em.
When we moved, we found about 50 of the things under the dresser.

It's amazing how well those milk rings roll and bounce in the paws of a kitty. :thumb: Mine likes my daughters pony tail things too, and those thin plastic bracelets she has.

Sometimes he will also drop them in his food bowl. LOL
Animals are so funny sometimes.
