Tanker Explosion Forces 2,000 to Evacuate Iowa Town
Wednesday, August 01, 2007

SIOUX CENTER, Iowa — A tanker truck exploded Tuesday afternoon in one of the busiest parts of this northwestern Iowa town, forcing the evacuation of about 2,000 people — about a third of the town's population.

One person was hospitalized with undisclosed injuries, officials said. The cause of the blast was unclear.

"We know that we have a trailer transport carrying some sort of flammable liquid adjacent to rail cars," said David Krahling, spokesman for the Sioux Center Fire Department. "I'm not exactly sure how full or empty any of those vessels were."...http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,291643,00.html

If you drive much on the highways go out and buy a DOT pocket hazmat guide below. As you pass a truck or tanker look on the side or rear for the placard and then look up the number. It tells you what it is and what it will do if it burns. Some of what you look up will shock you, or at least make you speed up to get away from it.
