Environmentalist Gets 4 Years for Arson

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) -- A federal judge on Wednesday sentenced the last of 10 radical environmentalists convicted of arson to just over four years in prison for his role in burning down a horse slaughterhouse in central Oregon.

U.S. District Judge Ann Aiken stuck to her initial sentence of 51 months for Jonathan Paul after a two-month delay to hear arguments for a lesser term.

Aiken dismissed the arguments from Paul's attorney, Marc Blackman. Not long enough. Not only did this guy burn down a pretty proiftable (if kinda unsavory) business, but he put about a dozen people out of work. They did rebuild the plant as a rendering facility, but the cost of doing so eventually put it out of business. Now, there isn't a rendering plant between the Cascades and the Rockies and all the road kill, dead farm animals, etc. in this area go to a landfill or are cremated. Both have some pretty detrimental environmental effects. Thanks asshole.
