LITTLE ROCK (AP) - It's a girl - again - for the Duggars.

Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar welcomed their 17th child, and seventh daughter, into the world Thursday.

The Duggars say Jennifer Danielle was born at 10:01 a.m. at Saint Mary's Hospital in Rogers. Jennifer weighed 8 pounds, 8 ounces and arrived five days after Michelle's due date.

Less than 30 minutes after giving birth, the Duggars already were talking of having more.

Michelle Duggars says the family would "love to have more" and "love the ruffles and lace."

One creepy DU response (http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=1499326&mesg_id=1500050).

http://www.freeconservatives.com/vb/images/icons/pacifier1.gif Welcome Jennifer Danielle!

I've known about the Duggars way before TLC and all the media exposure (*I just didn't know them by name yet), because my husband and I looked into the ATI program when we were contemplating our journey into homeschooling. There is a large convention each year where ATI families get together; our pastors family were involved, and so they provided us with lots of information about the program, ATI homeschooling families, etc.

As ar as I'm concerned, these are the types of people who SHOULD be having children. Better than several welfare moms spitting out babies like a vending machine. If Mrs. Duggar is able to have the children safely, the family wants the children, the father is able to provide for his family, why in the WORLD should it matter to ANYBODY else how big their family gets?

Congratulations Duggar Family on your brand new bundle of joy! :doll:

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.Genesis 1:27-28 (http://kingjbible.com/genesis/1.htm)

Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar have had their 17th child, a girl named Jennifer.

I can't find it now (and the Duggars' website is currently down), but I read about them after child 16. They are conservative Christians who felt convicted for not having children, and they covenanted with God to have and raise as many children as He would bless them with.

Jim Bob Duggar is a former state representative. The family has created a structure in which the older children help to raise the younger children. All are obedient, well-mannered, and well-dressed. The family reports that it has no debt.

Their children's names all start with a "J." They are,

Joshua, 19;
John David, 17;
Janna, 17;
Jill, 16;
Jessa, 14;
Jinger, 13; (Ginger, but with a "J")
Joseph, 12;
Josiah, 11;
Joy-Anna, 9;
Jedidiah, 8;
Jeremiah, 8;
Jason 7;
James 6;
Justin, 4;
Jackson, 3;
Johannah, almost 2, and the newborn,
Jennifer.

There have been two sets of twins.

I am awed by the Duggars' love of God and their obedience to Him, and the blessings He has bestowed upon them.

The anti-life crowd has another opinion of the matter. It is nasty, petty, and vindictive.

I won't quote it, but if you wish to see arrogant hatred in action, you can read this opinion piece published by the San Francisco Chronicle. The author of the piece, titled "God Does Not Want 16 Kids" (http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/gate/archive/2005/10/19/notes101905.DTL), doesn't have any idea or care what God wants.

Fortunately, many disagree with that vitriol. Commentary on that article can be seen here (http://www.rense.com/general68/Goddoesnotwant.htm).

When I was compiling genealogy information for my family tree, one of my distant cousins and his wife had something like 22 children in about 20 years, including 4 sets of twins. That was around the middle of the 20th century.

Tex, it certainly is a different time now, isn't it?

Unlike so many broken families and those who have children for recreation and without thought of the consequences, I am always impressed by those who bring children into the world with love, and who raise and support them.

:unsmile: A large part of the problem is the economy. Who can afford to raise umpteen children, if the mother stays at home with them? We barely get by on my salary, & we only have one.

:unsmile: And let's not forget, those of us who work to afford the few kids we have, have to pay taxes to provide welfare for those too lazy to work, but have plenty of energy to pop out several welfare babies.

I have no sympathy for those who rely on the State to support their profligacy, no matter what kind of profligacy it is.

But this family supports itself, AFAIK.
