Lake Superior Shrinking; No One Sure Why
Friday, August 03, 2007

MARQUETTE, Mich. — Deep enough to hold the combined water in all the other Great Lakes and with a surface area as large as South Carolina, Lake Superior's size has lent it an aura of invulnerability.

But the mighty Superior is losing water and getting warmer, worrying those who live near its shores, scientists and companies that rely on the lake for business.

The changes to the lake could be signs of climate change, although scientists aren't sure.

Superior's level is at its lowest point in eight decades and will set a record this fall if, as expected, it dips three more inches.

Meanwhile, the average water temperature has surged 4.5 degrees since 1979, significantly above the 2.7-degree rise in the region's air temperature during the same period.

That's no small deal for a freshwater sea that was created from glacial melt as the latest Ice Age ended and remains chilly in all seasons.

A weather buoy on the western side recently recorded an "amazing" 75 degrees, "as warm a surface temperature as we've ever seen in this lake," said Jay Austin, assistant professor at the University of Minnesota at Duluth's Large Lakes Observatory.

Water levels also have receded on the other Great Lakes since the late 1990s. But the suddenness and severity of Superior's changes worry many in the region....http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,292000,00.html

Well, it MUST be. Every frigging natural phenomenon is caused by Gorebull Warming. When the upper half of the US is under glacial ice, the stupid bastards will still be screeching about Gorebull Warming. It's all their programming allows.

Superior is shrinking...hmmm...maybe because the watershed isn't receiving as much precipitation as it should and MORE water is leaving the lake than is entering??

And why is the precipitation declining? All together now .... 3 .... 2 .... 1 ....

No Doc,

It's Bush's fault.

In a way, since Bush is responsible for Gorebull Warming ... and the Civil War ... and the Black Death ... and the Ice Age ... and the extinction of the dinosaurs ... and ... and ...

True, but not yet.

I thought GW was going to lead to the melting of the Ice caps and creating higher water levels and flooding ? They changed that , too ?

It's a known fact that Detroit sucks, so, .......................................... the water is somewhere south of Marquette.

No Doc,

It's Bush's fault.

Well, global warming is Bush' fault. No, really. Ask any lefty. That retard, who can't walk and chew gum at the same time, managed to tamper with the temperature of the sun. The environmentally-UNfriendly bastard.

Honestly. Some people just don't pay attention. Hmph! http://foolstown.com/sm/hmm.gif

Oh, yes, dPrasse. The plight of our beloved Mother Gaia is an unending and ever-changing one.

And it's all Bush's fault! :flame:
