Jury Finds GI Guilty of Rape and Murder of Iraqi Girl and Her Family
Saturday, August 04, 2007

FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. — A military jury on Friday found a soldier guilty of rape and murder in the slayings of a 14-year-old Iraqi girl and her family.

Jurors deliberated much of Friday evening before convicting Army Pfc. Jesse Spielman, 22, of conspiracy to commit rape, rape, housebreaking with intent to commit rape and four counts of felony murder.

Spielman, of Chambersburg, Pa., was charged in connection with the March 12, 2006, slaying of the girl and the killings of her family. The attack took place in Mahmoudiya, a village about 20 miles south of Baghdad.

Military prosecutors did not say Spielman took part in the rape or murders, but alleged he went to the house knowing what the others intended to do and served as a lookout. Spielman had pleaded guilty on Monday to lesser charges of conspiracy to obstructing justice, arson, wrongfully touching a corpse and drinking.

Spielman's grandmother, Nancy Hess, collapsed outside the courtroom after the verdict was read. EMTs were called to the courthouse as soldiers in Spielman's unit fanned the woman with napkins.

His sister, Paige Gerlach, screamed: "I hate the government. You people put him (in Iraq) and now, this happened."...http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,292108,00.html

It's the government's fault???? Oh yeah, she must have meant Bush.

I can see how a kid could get caught up in being a watch without knowledge of the crime. But if the girl was screaming, and he was close enough to hear the goings on?? He would be faced with few choices. He could have run back to report it, confront the activity and risk death himself from his fellow marines, turn his head and pretend he didn't see anything.

Bad situation. I hope the leader gets the death penalty.

It is his MORAL obligation to stop it regardless of repercussions from fellow soldiers. He has already answered to man, now he will have to answer to God! The first was easy part...

P.S. His sister is an Idiot!
