My MUCH older brother, BuckeyeMike, is going for kidney stone surgery this coming Tuesday.

That means Gonzo67 and I will have to pick up the slack and drink more beer so the economy doesn't take a nosedive.

All kidding aside, a few kind words sent his way would be appreciated.

Thanx, Pete

Mike,
I will certainly add you to our family's prayers. My best friend suffered kidney trouble all her life. I've was by her side through several surgeries when we were growing up. It wasn't until 3 years ago when the doctors changed her medications and took her off of others that life threw her a giagantic curve ... she was told she could never have children. Daniel just turned 3 July 24th, :smirky:.
Take care of yourself. You're blessed to have a brother that would reach out on your behalf for prayers and good thoughts. May the Lord be with the physicians and guide their hands, and be with you and your family giving peace.
Many Blessings,
Hms

Very healthy and available in CFalls and Kalispell. (Though it is much better at the Brewery in Polson.) Actually lowered my 'bad' cholesterol by 30 points just by drinking a pint per day. And yes, my Doctor agrees.

Man we gots the slurry bombers up here....don't know about Polson....prolly the same as here eh? Now I know what London sounded like during WWII!
'Course this has gotten to be an annual thing the last decade or so!

Think I'll go out and see ifn I can't round up several pints of this cholesterol-lowering nectar!

Pete, my wife has had a few bouts with kidney stones so we can relate in my house. Mike is tough and I know he'll pull through just fine.

Far as the beer goes, the wife and I the last couple of weeks have been drinking more than our usual amound with weddings and re-unions. You and Gonzo don't need to do too much extra!:D

I talked to Mike, in the hospital this morning, and he sounded well. He said that they were able to remove two large stones, but couldn't reach two smaller ones. He's scheduled to have them "blasted" (his words) today or tomorrow, in hopes he will be able to pass them.

In case anyone would like to voice chat: (406)-751-6700 room 304

Pete

This is "blasting".

Extracorporeal Shockwave Lithotripsy

Extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy (ESWL) is the most frequently used procedure for the treatment of kidney stones. In ESWL, shock waves that are created outside the body travel through the skin and body tissues until they hit the denser stones. The stones break down into sand-like particles and are easily passed through the urinary tract in the urine.

There are several types of ESWL devices. In one device, the patient reclines in a water bath while the shock waves are transmitted. Other devices have a soft cushion on which the patient lies. Most devices use either x rays or ultrasound to help the surgeon pinpoint the stone during treatment. For most types of ESWL procedures, anesthesia is needed.Kidney Stones in Adults (http://kidney.niddk.nih.gov/kudiseases/pubs/stonesadults/)

Good luck to him.

Hey folks...I'm back.....sorta....movin' low & slow right now......They blasted what they could yesterday, and sent me home..........poor wife has to play nursemaid with me........I think she enjoys some of the parts that cause me .....shall we say "discomfort".....but I will continue to "pass" what is left of the debris field from the ESWL.......lotsa fun and lotsa pain. Wouldn't wish this on anybody.........eh......maybe a certain New York "Senator" and various and sundry other politicians that come to mind.....Hell, Hillary usually looks like she(?) is in the middle of a stone "episode" anyway...just kind hope she(?) is experiencing some of the attendant "discomforts"too!
Anyway, I would like to again thank those of you that have expressed your concerns and heartfelt prayers for me and thank Bro Pete for his keeping y'all updated.
And thanks Doc for the info on the stones and all....learned some things even the urologist hadn't told me.......

Glad to hear you're home and I guess doing a bit better, Mike. Hey, I definately don't mind it when Mrs. Beo plays nurse for me so......:D
Anyway, yeah, Doc is a man of many talents, doctor, Lib killer, informer, he wears many hats. Good thing he's on our side or shall I say, we're on his!

Oh yeah, because Pete said something about "much older brother" in his first post, do we get to watch you beat him up when you get to feeling better?:D

MikeWelcome back, Mike. I do feel your pain. Passed one of them things myself, but no surgery.

My wife had similar pain when the urologist surgically inserted a stent into her ureter. She told me if not for the pain meds, which really didn't work that well, she thought she was going to die.

The smallest obstruction causes massive pain and anything in the ureter causes it to contract on its own as it tries to dislodge whatever is in there, which makes it hurt even more.

Did you have smooth stones or were they bullheads?

Glad you're doing better!

Let me know when you're able to travel the 55 miles to Polson. I can lend you a hand in getting the Stout started in an I.V. Glad to learn that you're home from your trial. Get well soon.

Nah, we don't do that "beat him up stuff" anymore.....gettin' too damned old for one thing, and it's more fun to "discuss" it over a brew or two!
'Sides, there's only a three year difference....he's old too....but I think he carries it bettern' me!
