Nearly half US murder victims are black

African-Americans are victims of nearly half the murders committed in the United States despite making up only 13 percent of the population, a report published Thursday showed.

Around 8,000 of nearly 16,500 murder victims in 2005, or 49 percent, were black Americans, according to the report released by the statistics bureau of the Department of Justice.

Broken down by gender, 6,800 black men were murdered in 2005, making up more than half the nearly 13,000 male murder victims.

Black women made up 35 percent, or 1,200, of the nearly 3,500 female homicide victims.

The most significant statistic is in the ninth paragraph, below where most people read:

Most murder victims -- 93 percent of blacks and 85 percent of whites -- were killed by someone of their own race.Therefore, the implication of racism in the opening sentence is deliberately deceptive.

This is really sad, but it points out that blacks don't face reality when they claim the disproportionate number of blacks in our prisons is racism. It also points out why blacks are stereotyped as being violent. People don't just dream up stereotypes, they develop from reality.

Oh sure, but to point out reality is now considered to be "politically incorrect". According to some people, I'm racist because I have the nerve to point out that Gangsta Rap "music" is nothing but destructive behavior popularized that keeps the group of people it's targeted towards in the ghetto.

Rap and it's message have a lot to do with your post. I mean, of course people don't HAVE to follow anything an entertainer says. But when being "Hard" and "keeping it real" are prized more than intellect and educational accomplishment, how can anything positive result? 50 cent has a HUGE following amongst African Americans in prison. Personally, if I were Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson, I would worry less about the white man, and go after these bastards that popularize criminal behavior.

Funny. Guys like Al Sharptongue and Jesse Jackoff push for us all to get along yet members of their own race continue to fight with each other. Makes me wonder.

The thing that kills me is that violent behavior and entertainment is passed off as "culture". How many kids have been influenced by this garbage? You have suburban kids acting like punks and joining street gangs because rappers they idolize tell them through lyrics that they are "keeping it real" or standing against "the man".

I know this post is about crime figures, but I believe that this has a large influence on those that commit crimes. BUT, is there large outcry in the African American community? No, it's just easier to blame me, the "white man" for keeping them down. Really? If my people are out the keep you in the ghetto, why do I deal with African American doctors at work every day? They don't seem to think anyone is keeping them down......
