I'm originally from Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, but I have lived in New York State, Maryland, Nebraska, Texas, New Jersey, Maryland again, and Texas again (since 1974), with a 4 month temporary assignment in Denver, CO in 1986. I worked for a company whose initials stand for I've Been Moved. All of those assignments were to work on government contracts - defense contracts and the Space Program (Apollo, Space Shuttle, & Space Station).

3. then Wisconsin (the Land of Madison and Milwaukee* Socialists, Cheese, Beer and Obesity),

4. then back to Illinois (the Land of a RINO party that thought the power was maintained by copying the corrupt Chicago Democrats, but soon learned that the Republican voters would stay home and Democrat voters would vote for the Real Democrats),

5. then Florida (just in time for the 2000 election, hanging chads and all),

6. And now back in Illinois (the land of monolithic Democrat government, high taxes and invasive government), and working in Wisconsin as the resident FIB**.

Correct. I live in Newark, which is in Nottinghamshire - the county town used to be called Snotingham in medieval times. I think we can guess why they dropped that name......

The "evil" King John, in whose time Robin Hood was supposed to have lived, died at Newark castle in 1216. The ruins of the castle are worth a visit and the town square is quite comely. There's a building there, which used to be a pub, called The Clinton Arms.

This ends my history lesson for today.

I guess that I know why. I don't think the French will ever forgive the Americans (or even the British) for liberating them from the Nazi tyranny. It's a case of no good turn goes unpunished.

My parents were living in Newark, NJ when I was born, although mom worked at one of the biggest hospitals in New York City at the time. Because of that, I was born in that hospital. Neither I nor my parents ever lived outside New Jersey. Not really anyway. There were two very short time periods when I strayed out of state.
1) From September 1981 through September 1982 I lived at Word of Life Bible Institute in Pottersville, New York (in the Adirondacks), where I graduated.
2) From October 1986 through March 1987 I and two friends lived in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. That was a mistake, although I enjoyed the native plants and trees, and the lizards that I saw on the sidewalks (since I'm into nature and all).
Here in New Jersey we have mountain people and Pineys. The term rednecks isn't really used, that I know of. I live in the Pine Barrens, and know some Pineys. They are fine people.

You know H. Leeds? Or at least, one of the Leeds? I used to be obsessed with it for at least 1.5 years, so I know a ton about the Jersey Devil. I can't believe how much they screwed up the creature in "The 13th Child"! It doesn't eat people, damn it! It eats chickens, dogs, and rodents! :flame:
I'm a big fan of the Devil Hunters, have you heard of them? The link to their site is below this reply. This is their old site, their new site got blocked by my mom's AOL Parental Controls. It blocks at least 50% of all the cool sites. The link to their new site is on there also.

I do know Harry Leeds, though we are not to the point of being friends. I am also familiar with Joanne Leuter's website, although I didn't know she had a new site. I haven't looked in a while.

I agree that in The 13th Child the legend was quite lame. But it turns out that when they were starting to put that movie together, they discovered that the real legend is copyrighted! So they had to make up that lame one for the movie! But still you would think they would have been able to secure permission from the copyright holder, in order to make a good movie. I was happy though that they filmed it at Batsto and the surrounding woods. That's only 7 miles from here, and that makes it more authentic.

I know, "The Last Broadcast" had the original legend and they didn't get sued, and it was pretty good, considering it was made for about $900. The Blair Witch Project ripped it off, though, that's why I made a vow to never see Blair Witch again. I don't respect movies that rip-off from other people. :finger:
The Last Broadcast is about four campers going into Pines Barrens to make a documentary about "The Jersey Devil". Three of them end up being found dead, and the one survivor dies in Jail after a court said he was guilty. They find the footage they were shooting, and then they find out the shocking truth.
It was excellent! You don't who the hell did it through most of the film, but whoever did it, was mentally insane! I highly recommend it! The Jersey Devil killing someone is like Bill Clinton NOT sleeping with Monica.
How do you know Harry Leeds? How'd you meet him? Have you ever been to the Leeds house?

BarryC

Re: The Last Broadcast, I also have that on DVD.

Re: Harry Leeds, in the 90s he was either the mayor or some kind of township councilman in the township where the hotel is that I work at. During that time when he was the mayor or a councilman, he got a job in the security department at our hotel, supposedly just so he could get free golf there (we all get free golf, though I have no interest in it). One of my co-workers knew him because he talked to him all the time about the Jersey Devil. So I met him a few times too. I'm not quite sure if he still works there or not. I think he does, but at night or something.

I have not yet been to the Leeds house. I heard there's just foundation walls now. It would be interesting to go along on a Devil hunt sometime. That would be in Leeds Point, just up the road from our hotel.

From Michigan (Go Spartans) to Kansas, to Missouri, to a moderate Blue state that voted for Bush both times. This state has 75 counties and interestingly, the 30 counties that voted most heavily for Bush are the strongest economically and have the best schools, while the 30 counties that voted most heavily 'rat, are the poorest and have the worst schools in spite of the fact they spend more/student than the state average.

Your conclusion about my state is............ : :smash: or :worshippy:

In the late 1990s I flew out to Denver to buy a vintage Cadillac-based ambulance. I bought it from McCoy-Miller/Peak Coachworks, formerly known as McPeck. It was a Miller-Meteor Dealer, which the ambulance was. I met a friend there who lived in Denver, and I stayed with him for a couple days.
Anyway, when I was in Denver and Golden, I noticed old cars (60s and 70s) nearly everywhere, in parking lots and on the roads, in good condition too. Is this still the case? That was neat. I thought that was really cool seeing old cars all over the place. It was like going back in time. I don't mean there were hundreds of them, but still there were quite a few, much more than here or anywhere else I've been to.
