I think this is sad. What the hell do the Japs need whales for anymore anyway? They probably think it's an aphrodisiac or something.

SAPPORO -- Eco-tourists on a whale-watching vessel, looking forward to observing the mighty creatures in their natural habitat, were instead greeted by the sight of a harpooned whale being dragged in by a Japanese whaling vessel on Friday.

One of the two whaling companies operating the whaling ship, meanwhile, filed a protest against the whale watching vessel with the Rausu town government.
"The passenger boat approached us, which was extremely dangerous. We think this could be considered dangerous sailing, and we want you to issue a warning," the protest said.

(Yea, I'd say it was pretty damn dangerous, for the whale, anyway!)

It may just have proved dangerous to the Japanese whaling induistry, which serves no crucial purpose, even though Japan claims it's for scientific research.

Commercial whaling is illegal worldwide, but Japan is obsesssed with overturning the ban.

Don't the Inuits have access to seasonal whaling rights? I hope not.

I can understand the need to consume an entire whale centuries ago but now...let them eat tuna! (dolphin safe, of course)
