Man, I finished reading "Velocity" today, and it has to be one of the best Horror Mystery's I've read in a while. I bought three Dean Koontz novels at a Thrift Store WHILE in the middle of reading "Velocity". He is that good!

Here are the books I bought:
"Fear Nothing"
"Watchers"
"Night Chills"

I have a question about "Intensity" and "Velocity", are those two novels related to each other sequel wise? Which one should I have read first?

Dean Koontz has given me hope that real Horror will continue in the future. If you notice all the other Horror writers are depening upon sex, gore, and language to tell the story.

Dean Koontz has language and violence, yes. But, it isn't over the top, and guess what? Not one F-word was in there, not one. His writing style is a lot like mine, the language increases when the suspence is high, but then lowers again when it is calm.

He also doesn't do over the top blood, like me, and there is no sex being described between two humans. There is, however, some sexual references. Billy, the main character, walks into a room and sees female manicans that are in bondage porno-like positions, and he discovers a porno stash. He also turns off the TV during a, let's say, naughty scene. No, he wasn't watching porn, but I can't give the reason out why it was on the TV for fear of spoiling the novel.

Dean Koontz has the same writing style as me, which I appreciate knowing, because I was starting to feel like I was the only one that focused on scaring people more than sex or gore.

I give this a 5 out of 5, Dean Koontz wrote a novel that proves that not all Horror stories have sex and gore.

So, what do you reccomend I read? I'm reading "Fear Nothing", which is good so far. Plus, what's your favorite?

I haven't read nearly all of his novels. Lightning and The Bad Place are certainly up there.

I met him in person at a book signing 20 years ago. He is a gentleman.

His collection, Strange Highways, is also very good.

By FAR my favorites are: Watchers, and the Odd Thomas Trilogy (Odd Thomas, Brother Odd, Forever Odd).

But I have enjoyed ALL of his novels.

I tried to read one of his books, The Taking, a couple of years ago and threw it down in disgust because it was so boring. I much prefer books by Stephen Coonts.

I also like Vince Flynn and John Sandford.

I forgot about lightning. I agree that was a good one.

Of what I can remember, no.

Of what I can remember, no.

Are you sure? Because I was reading the back of "Intensity" and it took place in Napa County. The same place where "Velocity" took place. I'm just wondering.

"From The Corner Of His Eye" is a great read. I highly recommend it.

Pure coincidence, I'm fairly sure they aren't related.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and Strangers was really good too!

Good, because I hate, and I mean HATE reading books in a series out of order. "Intensity" came out before "Velocity", thus the reason I was on a search to find out the truth.

I've not yet read any of his work, and as such don't have a favorite. :p

I have Demon Seed and The Funhouse in paperback and may give them a looksee in the near future.

"Watchers" is especially good if you are a dog lover. "Lightning" was for me, the most understandable and "believeable" book about time travel I have ever read.

Well, I just saw "Watchers" the movie, not very good. Didn't really pull strings with me. I guess I should read the novel now, I know, but I didn't know it was based off of Dean Koontz's novel until after the movie. Plus, I was dead tired.
Don't see the movie, and I don't trust 75% of my friends now when it comes to picking horror flicks. They don't have the talents necessary to pick these things out.

Hmmm, I thought I warned you (in another thread -- perhaps not, but I thought I did) NOT to see the stupid movie(s - yes believe it or not they made TWO of the stinkers!) -- they may SAY they are based on Koontz's book, but if I'm not mistaken, he cut ties with the first movie because they were doing such a hatchet job on it.

Rule #1: NEVER, never, EVER, watch the movie before reading the book!

Please don't let the movie tarnish your experience of reading the book. It really is a very good book, and like PH said, if you're a dog lover it makes it even more so.

The Watchers movie is garbage and has little to do with the book.

They made a whole trilogy out of Watchers. Don't worry, I was so tired that I couldn't remember the ending or 75% of the movie. My friend picked it up at 1:00 AM and we stayed up watching stupid horror flicks until 7:00 AM. Well, The Grudge 2 wasn't that bad, but still, the rest of them were crappy. I just remember thinking "What a dumb movie this is." My friends thought is a masterpiece.
You know what novel they should turn into a movie? Fear Nothing or Velocity. I would go see those.

Got to page 200 last night in "Fear Nothing", pretty good. I love the dog Orson. I want to have a dog like him. He drinks beer and belches, how cool is that?!
Pretty good plot so far...
