View Full Version : Florida Dems pissed

The anger coursing lately through Democratic circles in Florida feels unlike any since the presidential recount of 2000.

This time, though, the object of wrath is the Democratic National Committee, which voted last month to punish Florida harshly for moving up its presidential primary to January. Under pressure from the four states permitted to hold contests that month, many Democratic candidates have pledged not to campaign in Florida and other states that break party rules.

Barring a compromise, none of Florida’s delegates can be seated at next summer’s party convention, which means the state Democratic primary will essentially count for nothing. Florida Democrats are calling it a cruel irony, not least because their party has worked doggedly to restore public confidence in the electoral process since 2000.

FLori-DUH, it's clue time. At some point, moving primaries earlier and earlier in the "I wanna go FIRST!" tantrumfest is going to result in presidential campaigns beginning the day after a prez election, and it's already way the hell too long. The asswipes have been at it pretty much all year, and the result is an endless string of bullshit "debates" that have about as much meaning as kids screaming "DID NOT!" "DID TOO!" at each other.

When those who want to be the president of the most powerful nation on Earth or in history are reduced to answering questions from YouTube zit-poppers with sock-puppet snowmen, something is seriously amiss. And judging by the ratings, the people just don't give a shit this long before the election. They want to be spared the smarmy faces and the shameless lies of politicians for as long as possible.

We need a nationwide primary no earlier than June of an election year. If five months isn't enough time to get a candidate's message to the people, the candidate should not be in politics.

Well, I am a Floridian, and usually vote Democrat... and I agree with Doctor Doom 100% on this point.

I'm not necessarily angry at the DNC more than I am the local figures. I'm upset with everyone involved who decided to turn this into a pissing match, and that's probably both groups.

Florida's a huge swing state, it's a terrible idea to annoy the voters there just when you should be energizing them. Fred Thompson should send them a thank-you note.

You've said more'n a mouthful there, Doc. (tantrumfest....LOVE it! :thumb: )

Sadly, it has been like that for far too long...and I fear it will only get worse in the next couple election cycles.

We need a nationwide primary no earlier than June of an election year. If five months isn't enough time to get a candidate's message to the people, the candidate should not be in politics.
I've long been a proponent of 2 month campaigns for Congress (a restriction on campaigning before Labor Day of that election year) and 5-6 month campaigns (beginning no earlier than Memorial Day) for President.

They would be a LOT less expensive and the candidates would have to focus on their OWN candidacy/platform rather than wasting resources flaming the opposition.

... (T)he candidates would have to focus on their OWN candidacy/platform rather than wasting resources flaming the opposition.NO FAIR, Mister Meanie! You want to block the DemonRATs who don't have a platform that they dare to publicize, and who are thus forced to attack their opponents.
