Okay, bought an MP3 Player (of which I know absolutely NOTHING about) for my daughter for her birthday. Installed all the software, hooked it up, and the (stupid!) computer says device not detected (even thought, in Device Manager, sure enough, there it is).
I got onto the support site and it says I may need to do something to the registry. I'm scared to do this (considering I have very little knowledge of computer stuff).
Would one of you wonderfully gifted techie-guru's take a look at the support site, and tell me if you think this is easy enough for a relative novice to do? My daughter is so dissapointed we can't get any music in the stupid thing ... any help would be greatly appreciated!
Here's the site:

You should be able to do it. It isn't much different from what we did with your registry before, assuming you don't have to use the advanced features mentioned in the note in step 5. If you have to do that, we might want to teleconference again, like we did before. You probably won't have to though.

I kind of thought it was like what you helped me with, but I wasn't sure. Thank you so much Rhino! I'm still nervous about it, but I feel better knowing that someone more knowledgeable than me doesn't have an red-flags about it.
Why can't anything be easy? Man this is frustrating!

Funny thing is a lot of times this sort of thing is easy... but due to some sort of cosmic joke, the ones who most need it to work right the first time wind up with the most bizarre problems.

I don't use MP3 players or Cell Phones. I contact by using an ancient technique, it's called having a conversation face to face. I'll admit it, I'm low-tech. So, I can't help you. I don't even know why I replied, honestly.

Well, I clicked your link, and considering all I got was a blank page... I think that would be fairly easy for you to do.
Hell, a Liberal could do that... Blank page... do nothing... Liberals do it all the time! And if a liberal can do it, I'm positive you could! :)

I don't know what happened, apparently they must update their links or something? I think Rhino was able to use the link. I'm sorry Gonzo ...
Here's where I found it (per the info provided with the MP3 player)

She's changing the USB permissions in the ENUM key under the HKLM hive in the registry.
