Warner to replace Warner?

RICHMOND, Va. - Former Gov. Mark Warner announced Thursday that he will run next year for the U.S. Senate seat held by Republican Sen. John Warner, who is retiring after 30 years in office.
<!-- SpaceID=0 timeout (ads1) -->Democrat Mark Warner, 52, ended speculation about his political future in a video e-mailed to supporters and media.

"Our country is at a crossroads," Warner said on the video. "We're dealing with a mismanaged war. Our stature in the world is declining. We have no national competitiveness plan, and no thoughtful approach on energy policy that would actually create jobs, make us more secure in the world, and that deals with the threat of climate change."

The former governor — who is not related to the senator — ended his four-year term with high approval ratings in January 2006. Unable to seek re-election because of Virginia's unique ban on consecutive terms for governors, he turned his attention to a possible presidential bid but decided not to run.

It's going to be a tight race if Gilmore gets in. Otherwise, VA will be blue. Warner is very popular. Remember, Webb didn't have the name recognition that Warner does, nor the charisma, etc., and he made it (barely).

We may get a couple pickups, but we have about 3:1 more seats in play than the 'rats. '08 will probably be as bad as '06, and possibly worse, thanks to the stay-at-home and third-party grousers and bed wetters.

:sulk: Hey, dickhead! We're WINNING.

The rest of his incoherent statement:

We have no national competitiveness plan, and no thoughtful approach on energy policy that would actually create jobs, make us more secure in the world, and that deals with the threat of climate change."

This dickhead managed to string together a 34 word sentence that makes absolutely NO sense! WTF? He managed to slip in every DNC trigger word in one sentence. My weiner dog knows more about politics than this tool, and can speak better too!

I live in Virginia, and Mark Warner did an outstanding job here. He is a democrat I would vote for. People can bite my head off all they want, but Mark Warner is not the same as Kennedy or Pelosi. In any other state, Warner would be a republican.

Chuck Hagel in Nebraska?

...In any other state, Warner would be a republican.I have trouble swallowing this assessment...

If he's conservative enough to be a Pub in any other state, then he can be a Pub in Va. Virginia has supported Pub presidential candidates historically, including both of Dubya's campaigns... So why doesn't this man run as a Pub? Answer: He's not conservative - He's a handpuppet of the Lefty Democrats... Read his statement - Nothing in that sounds to me like a Pub...

Being an efficient, effective state administrator is a far cry from the roll he will be playing in the US Senate - There you will discover that he will add more power to the Left, not only by virtue of moving a Senate seat from the Republican ranks to the Dems, but also, based on his statement, he will simply add his voice and vote to the Leftist agenda...

This is not good news...

RINO for a RINO? Even trade.

Hardly... The Latter Warner is NO RINO... By definition to be a RINO one has to be counted among the Republicans...

If this man wins this seat (which he very well could), the Pubs lose a seat to the Dems... That just firms up their hold on the Senate... Dingy Harry remains as the Majority leader and the Dems control all the committees... Plus it moves them closer to the 2/3 majority they need to override a presidential veto...

"Listen, I am anxious to talk about my record as governor. You know, some of these national folks coming in with these attacks — it's classic Washington. An hour into the campaign and they're already whaling away," he said.Whaling? How about wailing.

Anxious? I think Warner meant "eager."

I thought whaling was illegal in our waters? This man is a threat to the fragile environment...!!!

The use of whaling for wailing is probably not Warner's goof, but rather that of the semi-literate reporter who quoted him.

He's far from a lefty, but I never said he was conservative. I'm simply stating Virginia is quite conservative that in most other states, Warner would look like a mainstream Republican.

Republicans are loosing ground in Virginia, and at a very rapid pace. While it will probably go Republican in 08, the demographics of the state are changing and people have gotten sick of some of the idiot republicans that have been elected here.

I disagree, but we'll see.

It's very bad news for the GOP in Va. Warner is one of the most popular governor's in state history, in a state full of GOPers. That should tell you something about his record.

A vote for Warner is a vote to keep the 'rats holding the senate leadership reins. Liking the guy is irrelevant.
