View Full Version : A VERY Sad Day At Our House

So, first it was my daughter's beloved furry friend Taffy Candy who succumbs to the tainted dog food and had to be put to sleep. Then, last Thursday our beautiful girl, our rottweiller Holly passed away in her sleep. She was very old, and we suspect she just missed her buddy Taffy too much to hold on any longer.

Today, this morning early, my husband let the pups out to go potty and my son forgot to close the front gate. As Bubba was getting their food ready, apparently something must have caught the eye of our little man UGA and he ran out of the gate, only to be THOUGHTLESSLY hit by a hit-and-run driver. When my husband went out to feed the boys, he called for UGA and of course he didn't come ... no jingle, jingle, jingle of his tags. Bubba began calling then noticed the open front gate, he ran to the road only to find our beloved puppy on the side of the road breathing heavily.

We rushed him to the pet emergency room, but his injuries were just too extensive -- at the very least, his back was broken. My son made the difficult and painful decision to let him go.

http://www.freeconservatives.com/vb/images/icons/flaming0.gif The thing that ANGERS us so much is this: We live in a small town, EVERYBODY knows us, knows where we live, knows we have two pups. UGA is solid white (with a few brindle speckles), there is a huge street light at the corner of our property right where we found him, AND he has tags with our name and phone number. NOBODY came and told us, the hitter apparently DIDN'T EVEN hit their brakes ... no screech marks on the road, my husband didn't hear a single horn. HOW can people be so cold-hearted that they wouldn't even stop to see if the poor creature was still alive, or if he had tags, or ANYTHING.

Anyway, we are definitely a house of mourning. Losing three fur-babies in less than three months is heart-wrenching and practically unbearable. Please, if you think about it, say a prayer and/or keep a good thought for my son, who is grieving immensely for his best friend. The two of them were inseperable -- when UGA wasn't with my son, he was with his brother Bodacious (our other pup, from the same litter). I know I've posted pics of the boys on here.

And so the sad task of making the tribute to him fell to me.

We miss him so much.

Wow, your son must feel awful about the gate. I hate to hear that. Consider yourself hugged, I am sending a big one your way. :(

I'm so sorry Homes. I'll pray for you guys. I hate to think of how terrible that must feel.

Tell your son not to feel guilty it was an honest mistake.

As for the driver who did this.... ya never know what may have happened. They might not have seen your puppy. But if they did....what goes around comes around.

My heart goes out to you and your family. That was a wonderful tribute to a fine dog.

And as Prez said, what goes around comes around...and, in my personal experience, the longer it takes to come around, the more it hurts and the bigger the mark it leaves.

Gentle lady, I can't fathom the depth of your loss. The only consolation is that somewhere out there are other furbabies searching for a forever home, and nothing fills that gap like a new little critter. Give the hurt time to subside, and then go see what little life or lives God has to bring into yours.

At least it was in her sleep. My heart truly aches for the family members I had to have put to sleep because they were suffering, including my beloved Lab Dixie a couple of months ago.
