How horrible. What an awful thing for a father to go through. My prayers are for his family, friends and loved ones. So sad.

What an image to have to live with the rest of your life. :(

What a ghastly death. That's one of the truly nasty acids. Unless it was a weak solution, the acid would have killed him almost instantly.

Primary question: where were the safeguards to prevent such an accident?

The safety nose-picking supervisors were probably walking around with clipboards full of junk papers, trying to look busy.

In most places there are very few. Let me correct that. Around here very few. Lots of overnight, in warehouse shops pop up. We come across these places by accident and are shocked at how little respect people have for some of these products.
We had a fire a few months back at a plating shop. At somepoint in the process it overheated, boiled over, and ignited the shop. There is supposed to be a catch around the vats but not at this place. Three of the workers had 3rd degree burns and respiratory problems. As soon as we made it inside and found out what we had we backed out at let it burn itself off.
The run-off from fighting the fire would have been a bigger problem than the building damage.

Obviously OSHA never visited. Given the crap that they fined GE for when I worked there, this shop would have been shut down.
