2 Texas Inmates Escape; Officer Killed

By MICHAEL GRACZYK
Associated Press Writer

HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) -- Two inmates working in prison field overpowered a guard Monday and ran her over in a stolen pickup truck, killing the woman as they fled, prison officials said.

One inmate was apprehended within an hour, and a manhunt was under way in Huntsville for the second. Stetson-hatted lawmen on horseback could be seen in the nearby fields with bloodhounds checking in the brush.

The missing inmate, Jerry Martin, 37, had been imprisoned since 1997 and was serving a 50-year sentence for attempted murder.

Martin and John Ray Falk, 40, were working outside the Wynne Unit of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice just north of Huntsville Monday morning. They overpowered the officer about 10:30 a.m. in the field along Interstate 45, took her weapons and stole a Huntsville city truck that was nearby, department spokesman Jason Clark said....http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/P/PRISON_ESCAPE?SITE=FLTAM&SECTION=US

Why a woman is allowed to be a prison guard at a mens prison is beyond me.
Have at me.

I agree with you 100 percent. There are also a lot of men that aren't physical enought to do the job also. Unless you are built like a linebacker you should not be on a men's prison work detail!

Aside from the fact that [it seems to me] a prisoner in for what this criminal was in for, and in for as many years as he was in for, should never have been out on a work detail, IC and Luc get a huge AMEN from this corner.

Has anyone forgotten that it was a woman guard who was overpowered in Atlanta when that murderous rampage took place?

Hasn' been that long ago that a prisoner was brought up here to Lubbock to Tech Medical Center on a false complaint of illness. As soon as they got him into an examining room, he overpowered two guards -one male, one female, and held two nurses hostage for several hours while he repeatedly raped them at gun point. Apparently, the police were powerless to do anything about it. Something about crossing jurisdictional lines --technically, the criminal was on a Texas Tech campus and the Tech police were supposed to handle it, but weren't equipped or able to do so. Eventually Lubbock SWAT had to get into it.

No woman should ever be guarding a male prisoner.

Ain't this Women's Lib, brought to us by a bunch of old fat, ugly lesbians, wonderful?

The escapee has now been captured.

Now he and his buddy can spend the rest of their lives paying for a murder charge. I hope.

I would let a woman guard a men's prison if she had all of these skills:

Mixed Martial Arts
Shooting
Black Belt in Karate

Other than that, no way. These guys need to be delt with by another guy, there's a lot of rapists in there. Who'd rape a guy with a gun pointing at his skull?

Or a cop, or a firefighter. There are men at my department who are so out of shape they become useless at a fire, making the rest of us risk and do more. I would get rid of them the same as females who cant do the job.
Now the big trend in these fields is education. Thats fine but its still a hard physical job to do and education doesn't get it done.

If only this were IC's world..................
