Viewers say that snipes and bugs are degrading their experience of watching television. Even some performers seem to resent the assaults on their work’s integrity. At last week’s Emmy Awards, the comedian Lewis Black delivered a blow against screen clutter, yelling, “We don’t care about the next show. We’re watching this show.”

As a long time snipe hunter, I can attest that they are the most difficult pests to control. The problem is their concealment ability. They're only visible when no one is looking at them.

Re the article, the split-screen crap has been going on for years. The station or network will run the horizontally compressed credits on one half of the vertically divided screen and an ad or a "coming up" promo on the other side. It's annoying as hell.

Since I haven't watched TV since the second season of X-Files, I have no idea how obnoxious all this time-shared screen crap has become, but it does seem to have become far worse.

The split screen stuff isn't so bad. Sometimes I find it handy, as long as it's limited to when the credits are running. It's the little popup stuff that interferes with what you're actually watching, that really annoys me, especially when it covers up text that is part of the current show.
