Of course, this won't happen here, but Europe likes to teeter to the far right on occasion, as history has shown:
From the BBC:
The French National Assembly has passed a controversial bill tightening entry conditions for the relatives of immigrants living in France.
Under the legislation, the relatives will have to prove they are solvent financially and can speak French.
It also includes plans for DNA testing of foreigners seeking to join family members living in France......Mr Sarkozy has set up deportation quotas, promising to send home 25,000 illegal immigrants this year alone.

Interesting. Maybe more of Europe will realize that immigration is a privilege, not a right.
Under the legislation, the relatives will have to prove they are solvent financially and can speak French.
Smart.

I see that President Sarkozi is taking charge! Good! Maybe W will get a clue from him and start a similar process here!

Under the legislation, the relatives will have to prove they are solvent financially and can speak French, insult tourists in Paris, not bathe for weeks, not shave underarms or legs (women), and still have a snobbish superiority complex about their declining economy and haute culture, love Jerry Lewis as the funniest comic ever, carry white flags wherever they go in case the Germans invade again, ...
25K is just a drop in the ocean compared to the third world surplus population France got dumped on their doorstep.

Let me tell you, guys. In the month that I was in France between what my sister told about how Sarkozi handled the debates during the presidential campaign, and what I saw on the TV, I was cheering for the guy.
Sarkozy has the left whining, bitching, and moaning, with their panties in a wad. One of the many things he did: he stopped the French version of affirmative action. From now on, you want to go to college, you work pretty damn hard, boy. Nanny Government is not going to give you a free pass. Needless to say, that got students in a capital hissyfit.
You think the press is unkind to Bush? You should hear what the French drive-by media has to say about Sarkozy. LOL.
I wish to goodness we had a Sarkozi here. I'd vote for him in a heartbeat.

And what our record on illegal immigration so far, Paul? C'mon, give the guy some credit.

Well, I'd change that to "When the French have more balls than OUR SO-CALLED LEADERS ..." But, yes, I get your point.
Hear, hear.

Kudos to Sarkozy for at least making an attempt (feeble as it is) to address the problem in France. And for all of his anti-U.S. fingerpointing, Chirac himself was in "le doghouse" with his own people for burying his head in the sand.

Chirac said that the French could live with the idea of Iran having nukes. Sarkozy is completely, and vocally, against it. Plus, he is very much pro-America.
Another thing he is trying to do is getting the French to work on Sundays, "like in the USA". You should have heard the caterwauling. The Frogs don't want to work on weekdays, let along Sundays. LOL.

And what has this administration done? Sarkozy is the type of man when he promises something, he'll do it. France will be rid of at least 25K illegals next year, most of them back to North Africa. I would love to have someone with that type of conviction as a politician here in the US.
Europeans will only be pushed so far. The problem with Europe, as has always been, they wait until it's to late, and then use extreme opposite measures to fix the problem, then sort of teeter back to how it used to be, and the cycle continues.
Europe will not fall to Islam despite predictions. Europeans are not stupid, they know what problems they are facing. All it will take at the last minute is to elect a far right leader, get some quick action passed in the parliaments and BOOM, all illegals, people on visas, etc will be gone. Sound to easy? It is that easy.

The catch is despite their frequent flaws, the French are very nationalistic people at heart, and are pissed.

Funny you should say that cause here is what one of their greatest leaders said of us,""The Americans will always do the right thing... after they've exhausted all the alternatives." -- Winston Churchill
Guess we are flip flopping with the Euros, it is a said day in Hell. But I am impressed with the French and especially Sarkozy.

PARIS — As France races to deport 25,000 illegal immigrants by the end of the year — a quota set by President Nicolas Sarkozy — tensions are mounting and the crackdown is taking a toll.
...Sarkozy has ordered officials to pick up the pace.
"I want numbers,'' Sarkozy reportedly told Brice Hortefeux, head of the Ministry of Immigration... "This is a campaign commitment. The French expect (action) on this.''
There are no solid estimates of the number of illegal aliens in France. The Immigration Ministry puts it at 200,000 to 400,000, many from former colonies in Africa. France has a population of some 63 million.
The president, who cultivated a tough-on-crime image while serving as Interior Minister, says France needs a new kind of immigrant — one who is "selected, not endured.''
...Immigration legislation under consideration also aims to ensure that immigrants joining family members here speak French and grasp French values — to be proven with tests.
In a nationally televized interview Thursday, Sarkozy went further, saying he wants France to adopt immigration quotas by regions of the world and by occupation.
"I want us to be able to establish each year, after a debate in parliament, a quota with a ceiling for the number of foreigners we accept on our territory,'' he said.
...Injuries of foreigners during the past two months have also mobilized critics...
"Neighborhood groups are forming,'' said Pierre Willem of the UNSA police union. "Reactions are becoming more and more violent.''
...Socialist lawmaker Michele Delaunay, of Bordeaux, recently became a symbolic sponsor of a Kurd of Turkish nationality who had been ordered to leave France, stalling the expulsion process.
....She nevertheless received an official warning that citizens who help illegal aliens stay in France risk a five-year prison term."

Thank God, Western Europe has a chance after all. I'm so happy about this. As bad as our immigration problem is here, at least our illegals are not like theirs, and our Muslims in this country are not, for the most part, radical like the ones in Western Europe.

Oh how I wish we had a leader like Sarkozy. Plain spoken without "spin": "France want immigrants that are selected, not endured".
Damn, a real MAN! He ought to an American (of the Western US). A "Patton" on immigration...
Lots of fanatical opposition is mobilizing in France, and their drive by Media is tearing into him - but he is steaming straight through their leftist ice shelf.
Amazing..
