Police Investigating Giant Swastika Carved Into New Jersey Cornfield
Tuesday, September 25, 2007

As Jews around the world gathered in synagogues last Friday night to mark the start of Yom Kippur — the Day of Atonement — someone was apparently busy fashioning a massive swastika into several acres of a cornfield in Washington Township, N.J.

The swastika was spotted by a New Jersey State Police helicopter during a routine maintenance mission.

Local residents told the Star Ledger newspaper of Newark, N.J., that they were unaware of the reviled symbol of hate.

"I saw helicopters, and they were circling," Debbie Tamasi told the newspaper. "I had no idea."...http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,297933,00.html

:moo: Since nasi is Indonesian for rice, it should have been carved into a rice paddy.

This is not the first time the cornfield bordered by Hankins Road and South Lane has been de faced. A 130-foot-square swastika was carved in the field in July 1998. And a bigger 600-by-600 foot ver sion of the Nazi emblem was found in a nearby cornfield at South Lane and Hankins Road near the West Windsor border almost a year later. No arrests were ever made....

...Township resident Edwin Die fenbach said that, at the time of the previous appearances, he as sumed the culprits were kids who created the emblem as a prank. The fact that the same thing has happened again eight years later surprised him.

"These kids are adults now," Diefenbach said. "This has got to be somebody who's sick."...http://www.nj.com/timesoftrenton/stories/index.ssf?/base/news-3/119069312899690.xml&coll=5
