About freakin' time!

Griese to replace Grossman at QB for Bears

NFL.com Wire Reports

The NFL Network's Adam Schefter has confirmed that Brian Griese (http://www.nfl.com/players/briangriese/profile?id=GRI028314) will start at quarterback Sunday for the Chicago Bears (http://www.nfl.com/teams/chicagobears/profile?team=CHI).

Griese will replace Rex Grossman, who threw three interceptions as the Chicago Bears fell to the Dallas Cowboys (http://www.nfl.com/teams/dallascowboys/profile?team=DAL) 34-10 on Sunday night and did not get a vote of confidence from his coach a day later.

"Will Rex Grossman start Sunday?" coach Lovie Smith asked on Monday, repeating the question. "Well, our evaluation process is going on right now, and if you come out to practice Wednesday, you'll have a better idea of who will be starting at all positions."

Had Angelo and Lovie done this earlier we may not have had as many injuries on the D! When the D spends so much time on the field because the O sucks, injuries will happen.

Detroit's offense is a beast and Griese will have to play a heck of a game just to keep them close!

I see that Lovie Smith finally woke up to reality that Rex Grossman isn't going to win you ball games.

Griese is not the answer, either. At least this switch will keep the critics quiet for a while and save the Bears fans from having to put up with Grossman's bipolar playing style.

Grossman or no Grossman, the Cowboys would have beaten the Bears, but not as badly.

I've always thought that having Grossman at QB was the same as the opposing defense having an extra player. LOL

I spent all of last season defending Rex against the naysayers on the official forums (Bears) but not this year. While I'm still not a 'Rex-hater', and our problems are much deeper than just one troubled quarterback (weak O-line, underachieving receivers, inept offensive coordinator) this is a good start.

Griese (and Orton for that matter) may not be THE answer, but Coach Smith has no choice at this point.. the fans are in open rebellion and demanding changes. If neither of those QB's can step up to the challenge, then this season will pretty much be done (for Chicago).

I wouldn't mind seeing Grossman back again at starting QB, but not until and unless he can play much more consistently and show more leadership in the Offense.

I have never figured out why the Bears have never had a quarterback coach that could teach them defenses and timing! They rely on their receivers to be wide open BEFORE they throw the ball and THAT condition does not remain open for long. Yup, Griese might be able to hit the receivers quicker. Been awhile since I've watched him, so not sure. It might surprise the hell out of the receivers and have them dropping balls all over the place.
The other thing that always bugged me about the Bears---The ALWAYS looked for Walter Payton when what they needed were offensive and defensive linemen!!! Still do. For at least ten years they've not had a pass rush unless they sent Urlacher in. Tony Romo could have read a book, most of the time, waiting for a receiver to get wide open.. And get wide open they did!!!
